Now that I am at a fully functional keyboard I can better explain.
Yes. They do. Par Vortex rules you can't post more than one of an item for sale in the classifieds without having a Vortex Media Group seller account. Our goup had one member who made a post that said "I have a green top for $13" the picture showed three. The post was deleted, he was blocked from access, until he got ahold of Vortex Media Group (they called him on the phone) and scolded at him for violating the posting rules, etc. He told the guy in a curt tone that Beth from the marketing dept was supposed to have already cleared his sales account status with VMG and that he was sorry but he did not do anything wrong par their policies.
The flame wars are amazing. You post up how-tos on simple stuff, and it's like the mods I most dislike thread x50. People personally attack, and if they have a +2000 post count they're looked at as more "trustable" than someone with less than 500, or worse a noob with less than 25 posts. So, no, this place is far from micromanaged to the point that you can't communicate.
However, given your personality 73 I think you'll find a lot of like-minded individuals over on vortex as opposed to here. But yeah if you get into an online he said/she said style posting war, you'll see a lot worse action than the "how fast have you gone" thread that was closed on here. Vortex is a 10-site Media group that rakes in a lot of cash per year. Think of it as the Microsoft of online car communities (spanning more than VW/Audi). Just looking at the site layout and feel, nb.org is a far surperior site in vBulletin revision, overall design, and of course, the nature of the posters. My 2 cents, of course.
