Default Instead of Rep...How about a 'Quickie'?

Okay, so waking up this morning, going through my little routine and just really missin' my rep comments. So I thought maybe the mods will have pity on those that enjoyed the 'love notes' and maybe compromise with us? How about a little 'quickie' box where we can leave a little comment for someone regarding their post but not be able to give or take away rep points?

I really did enjoy the repping, not for being able to 'build someone up' but to use as an acknowledgement for someone's post if it made me laugh or smile.....or both!

Come on guys...have a !

Pretty please with sugar on top?

Why not put that in a reply - like this, is it really so different?

Yes it is.....

a quickie could be a single field right on the thread where one types the message and hits send, instead of having to do a PM. Replies would just clog up the thread.

I agree this would be a cool thing but I doubt it will ever happen.

Edited for clarification

You mean leave little private messages where only the person who posted the message can see?

Sounds like "rep", but without a points and with a new name. Since everything should still be in place for the "rep points" (except that it's disable), it shouldn't be a major rewrite to accomplish the following:
1. Don't add points when "rep" is given.
2. Don't display any green dots (or give everyone 4 dots?)
3. Change the icon that one clicks on as well as the rollover text.

Exactly. It would pretty much be the 'rep system' we had, only without the 'rep'.

Pm's really aren't the same. I liked the rep to 'quick' comment on what someone said...and when they checked it, I knew they would be able to see what comment I was commenting on.

Haha, that confused even me... lol

Umm, how? now I like your avatar and I think that is worthy of a reply.

and here it is.

I like your avatar!

Also how is the thread getting clogged, is it a problem with the internet that the important replies won't get thru because people are posting little messages that don't really matter?

something... anything... the cut/paste comments work, but if someone doesn't come in here every few days it will take forever to find them mixed in amongst all the threads...

I think that is valid if it can be done with the software.

I understand the wanting to link it back to the comment in a thread that was made.

Yeah, that's where the PM's and the 'rep' are totally not the same. I'll just openly admit that I'm too lazy to actually cut, paste and PM someone about a post of theirs. So it would be nice to have a 'quickie' box, because JuggBug = lazy

I think it's a great idea, Aura. I never really gave out rep until the Vegas trip where I actually started to make friends from here. And I never really got it before then either. I didn't do it to build someone's rep... just to leave a little "hello!"

Pm's just aren't the same... the require too much work. PM's are for when you really have something to say and it's a "private message" for that person to see that doesn't require a thread to be written. The rep comments were just a quick pat on the back.

And replying to a thread doesn't count either because sometimes I just want to read things pertaining to the thread, not everyone's little comments in between... (I said sometimes!!)

I like quickies...But yeah, I would check the rep for the quick notes...PMs to me, are for when it's more serious, or a more time consuming comment/question.

There's no apostrophe before an 's' when you're talking about the plural version of a word. "I took some neat photo's!" is NOT correct.

I miss them too. I would hate to have the server slow because we all have to say hi to each other using a post instead of the rep.
