Well with the rash of surf-by spammers and spam bots I was thinking maybe this VB Hack would help. http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showt...ight=nospam%21

I think they ought to just make it where the mods have to verify the user to register. I know it makes it a kind of a pain for both the mods and the new member.....But it surely might deter the situation.

And how are we to know the users intentions before we allow them to post?

I could easily sign up at a forum, wait to be approved, then spam...

Though spammers are lazy... and so am i...

Here's a suggestion: Require a VALID name and address for every member, make that address available to the site mods only unless the member specifically allows it to be publicly displayed.

Or, at the very least, require a member to enter their location, even if it's only a state/province/etc. and country.

This rash of spammers is getting ridiculous. At least half a dozen in the past 24 hours.

Boooo...then I wouldn't have ever signed up. How about a valid drivers licence and social security number?

How about thumbprint recognition and a v-chip stuck in our heads.... HAHA!!! All of the forums I have set up usually had a trial period. Something like 30 posts or something like that and a Mod or Admin would say they were alright and accept them. Just a suggestion.

Ok, this thread is old and I've been gone for a few months - but if you guys are still having problems, I have a large list of known spammer IPs premptively banned from my own forum (and I add as they come through)

It doesn't cut them all out, but it dramatically decreased attempts to spam on board. (now using the contact us link is popular, argh lol)
