Exclamation Political Avatars...

Hey

I'm for politics, and supporting your candidate, but I would think that we should keep the political avatars off the site...I mean, part of the reason we have a separate section for politics, that you have to sign up for, is so we don't tick off those who don't want to see that sort of stuff...

Just saying.

I'll second that.

Same goes for signatures too.

I'll third it. Mostly because I'm tired of looking at Sarah Palin's orangutan face.

Too darn politically correct is what I think of this suggestion. Get over it and go on with life.

Hey, can't you read the first post? Personally, I couldn't care much, but I know politics can ruffle feathers. Again, that is why there is a separate section for it here at the ORG.

I would agree and give it my vote. I'm political myself, and wish we could openly display our political leanings and views here. however, i realize that we do have rules here on the org and politics are considered hot-topic, and are vied by subscirption only, where we can voice our political views and support. If we let one thing slide, other's might post other controversial items and this is not what our site is all about. There's plenty of Political sites out there and as stated, we do have hot-topics. My .02 cents

I say as long as things are done respectfully and not over the top we should just leave them be. Is anyone offended by mine? Its just an image with the names of the candidates who will be getting my vote.

I have no issue with Obama images or statements of support for him. Why should I?

Last time I checked, this is still America and its not a bad thing to be politically involved.

23 days from now and it should be all over. And no matter who wins, my avatar will change to something not political. I cant wait for election day to get here.

Cheers everyone. Get out there and VOTE!

Yes and no. I am offended because I think that voting for McCain is going to hurt the country I served in the Navy, so yeah, I'm offended by that button.

But, I do respect your right to have your vote for whomever you want to vote for. My point about it, is, that here on the ORG, we try to keep politics in a section for those who want to engage in that. And there are plenty of people on this site, who are voting for the correct person, Obama, and they might also be offended by your button, and might respond in a negative fashion on a unsuspecting thread.

That is why I suggested that sort of thing be disallowed, as to not start any fires.

Why would a McCain button offend you? Its not like I'm posting an image of Obama in front of a USSR hammer and sickle. So would you be okay with it if I supported the "correct" person and had an Obama seal?

People need to not get so "offended" by something that they have a difference of opinion on. I think its great that you support Obama, and I would never suggest that you not express that in a respectful way.

I think its hard to play both sides of the fence on this one. You cant have political discussion in one part of the forum and not expect it to spill somewhat into the other areas. Unfortunately these days, its hard for people to have a civil disagreement anymore without being offended, oh perish the thought.

I say you either let people discuss politics respectfully, or do away with it altogether. I dont want this site to become over-politicized either...because it has ruined other sites when it has gotten out of hand. But if everyone acts like adults here I think things are fine as they are.

I answered it pretty plainly here:

You clearly are missing the point. I wouldn't want an Obama button or seal either.
Again, since I have to repeat this for you to get it, my point about it, is, that here on the ORG, we try to keep politics in a section for those who want to engage in that.

Yeah, well, we used to have politics out in the open here, on the ORG, and too many people complained about it, and that is why it got it's own private section. And before people complain again, why not just remove the political avatars, signatures, and leave that to the section it's designed for? This is a private site, and there is no need to irritate people.

But it can, and that is why the separate section.

No, see, many of us like the political forum here because it's not as obnoxious as other political forums. And it's only a minor ammount of people here that participate in it. So the tail should not wag the dog on this site.

Hopefully an admin will walk into this thread and make official, what should just be common courtesy, and ask that no political junk be present outside the political forum.

Avatars are fair game. political or otherwise, if they aren't pornographic, they should be allowed.

Yep avatars are fair play......If there was a problem showing who you support, the mods would have put a halt to it real quick.

It's part of the most simplest of concepts of the US Constitution if it were to get technical. Freedom of expression and all that, of you get me.

Like I said before - it's up to the individuals displaying them.

Bill and I played the avatar game before - we both ended up pulling ours at some point.

Does it offend me to see Palin or a McCain button...sure - but I'm not playing that game this time. I am keeping my political discussions in Hot Topics where I believe the discussion belongs.
I think the problem is that those that want to display their leanings don't want to hear the discussion because their candidates fall apart when you display the facts. - Oops did something from Hot Topics spill? You decide.

I have the stuff in my sig only to balance out the goofy video link CoriBug posted. The "Awesome Obama Video" isn't awesome, so I thought I'd put up some info about Awesome McCain, too.

That being said, I really don't like to see things get political around here. I've taken myself out of all the political threads (but not unsubscribed) because I was getting close to losing friends there. I'm far more political than I used to be (I can thank the BF for that) and when presented with the opposition, I tend to fight back now.

There's no apostrophe before an 's' when you're talking about the plural version of a word. "I took some neat photo's!" is NOT correct.

And I agree with you Al

Since this website is originated in the US, luckily foreign people are very much welcomed to this org.

Since this is a car forum, it doesn't mean that avatars/signatures can only be about cars, far from it, it can be anything you want!

What bothers me is that I don't need to see who people are voting for.
Isn't that something private?

This election is world news for some reason and the result will affect the whole world as well. Even if we (the rest of the world) like it or not.
I don't need to see any of it on the org.
For that reason I do not take part in the hot topics as I clearly don't know what the elections are all about.

Those are my 2 (euro) cents
