Thumbs down So MANY ads!!! >: /

This isn't directed towards Dyned,nOR,Pdoel,or that Lion dude,I respect you greatly and the unsurpassed work you guys put into the site.

Is it just the fact that I'm Org'n on my blackberry 95% of the time,or is it this new "owner"?

It seems as though there are ads on just about every thread, every page,on occasion, member's post contain certain words become links which display annoying images.

Words such as:

VW

Beetle

Ect,...

I hate complaining,but its spamming,it sucks,no one cares,cut it out (whoever),

If its here to stay, why not post cute kitties,or adorable bunnies too,its just as useful.

-just wondering.

Ads keep the site up and running (and free). The only way I know of to get rid of the ads is to either run an ad-blocking program (boo! hiss!) or pay the 15 dollars to become a Member Sponsor (the little purple "MS" next to people's names).

I understand costs, but why the change as soon as this other dude takes over? How much would it cost,in all reality,to run no extra ads?

-Atleast run them with something interesting,I don't care about an nicer backyard or 1,000+ channels on a computer,.

You'd think VWoA would die to be sponsored here.

I don't get the keyword ads, just baners on top and bottom. When I'm not logged in,there's ads. In between posts too. Do ms'ers get less ads?

VWoA would sooner sue to have the site shut down. There was a big scare in 03 when they cracked down on alot of independent "clubs" using their logo. That's why the Newbeetle.org Logo no longer contains the 3 arches; and why the logo was revised once before the current one.

..

I feel ya man, sorry to hear it. MS do indeed see less ads. But even I have to deal w/them, sorry.

As for cost, it's been a while since I had the "joy" of looking, but we push ALOT of traffic every month. Lots of bandwidth. And ever since the site left Jeff's hands, it's been on leased server space as well.

Those are the magic words. Back in the day jeff paid for whatever the ads and sponsors didn't fill in. I even remember fund drives for the server costs.

Bandwith technically is cheaper nowadays compard to a few years ago, but we also use a whole lot more of it.

/me loves his ms tag.

Maybe we can make different ms levels... it might be a stupid idea to some, but I like the idea of you get what you pay for.

The simple fact is, the ads aren't just paying for the domain hosting... they are there to earn money for the owner.

Domain hosting is dirt cheap. For $47.40 for a year, you get your domain name, unlimited bandwidth, unlimited hard drive storage, 2500 e-mail accounts, and that is just one option. ( Web Hosting by IPOWERWEB )

Anyway, the options are out there for good, quality, cost effective storage & hosting. Any reason to NOT use them is simply a reason to keep the pockets of the owner lined most likely.

Ah well, the 'price' we pay to be part of a club eh?

Yeah, I don't think that you'd be able to put our forum on a $50/yr plan Stephen. But you're welcome to try. Sure wasn't some easy-win like that back when I was researching the stuff before Saad took over.

Maybe it's because I use Mozilla and not IE I only have the adds at the top/bottom of the page?

I didn't notice any of the other adds that are mentioned..

I would like to add some positive feedback that I love newbeetle.org. I thoroughly appreciate all the information that I've gotten from this web site!

If for some reason the website doesn't automatically log you in when you tell it to (a lot of the time it welcomes you, but then redirects you to a page that you are NOT logged into) then you see the adds at top, bottom, and you will find them every 4 or 5 comments in the middle of the pages.

Once you are logged in, you don't see them as much, and as a sponsor, you still see the top and bottom adds, but not the ones in the middle.

But if you are NOT logged in, you get ad-spammed to death.

hey everyone,

Thanks for the feedback here. Sorry to hear that the ads are getting in the way but like many posts in here pointed out, this site is 100% free and the content is available for free. Yes we are a business and yes our goal is to make some money but at the same time, this site costs money to run (and yah, it's more than $50 a year. ).

The site is hosted on dedicated servers with some of the best technology available today. There is a staff that is either working or on-call 24/7 to ensure nothing goes wrong with this site and if it does, their job is to get it back working ASAP.

Anyhow, there was a really good suggestion in here about offering different levels of membership to see less and less ads. I will bring that up with my team this week. Thanks again!!

The best solution is to join the .org for the small fee of $15.00 and become a MS. For the information, fellowship and the love for our "rides" exchanged here, this is a small fee to pay.

I dont see any ads anywhere I too love being a Member Sponsor.
You can kill 2 birds with one stone. $15 bucks gets rid of the ads and helps support one of your favorites places to cyber hang
