i am recommending that due to treatment of .org members from ECS due to selling faulty parts and then charging for the shipping to and from for that faulty part, that they not be allowed to be a site sponser any longer

I've never had a bad experience w/ ECS, but no one company can be perfect all the time. I've questioned some of their policies on picking up orders, but 99.9% is good for me. Usually you only hear the bad stuff not the vast majority of it that's good...

This site is a business too, I don't think they'd pass on that sponsor money unless the majority of members had been having issues.

right but working in the customer service field for the past 8 years if my company sends out a bad part or equipment we send a person that costs my company about 200.00 to do and fix or replace the equipment and we don't charge the customer because we want their continued business. never, i say again, never have i had a parts place whether it be online or a parts store regardless if i ordered from their site or bought at the store tell me i have to pay to ship the defective part back and pay to ship the new part to me. that is bad ethics for business. all it takes is one f up to erase 20 at a boys. glad to hear you have had all smiles with the company but there are more than just my feedback on ECS on this site to back my case up. they chose to do all sales online. that is the risk they take when they send out a defective part. they need to eat that shipping or charge the manufacturer of the defective part for the shipping not the consumer. business 101, it's so simple

ECS sent me the wrong magnetic drain plugs and didn't even ask me to return them, just sent out new parts and didn't ask me to pay shipping.

I've always been happy with their service.

that's what i am talking about. that's all they had to do eat some shipping costs for a defective part. yours was completely wrong and they didn't charge you. they have sent me the wrong part and didn't have to pay for shipping. so why now all of a sudden do they wanna charge me for the shipping? it's not like i have only spent 40.00 or 100.00 or 200.00 with them, it's been way more than that. a company will and should take care of good customer's for their continued business. it's not like i have to buy from them i chose to. but i am going to call again today since i never got a chance to speak wigth anyone there yesterday. someone called my house while i was at work but didn't call the cell like i had asked. too many holes in the customer service aspect too.

i just spoke to a gentleman there at ECS and they will not charge to ship out the new part but i still have to pay to send it back to them. it's a compromise i did accept and at least they were willing to meet me half way. doesn't change my thoughts on eating all the shipping but, the issue is being resolved.

I would still not be happy.... Not your fault the part was defective.... You've already paid for shipping... This is why i don't buy anything on the net...

believe me it's a live and learn experience. it definitely has helped me come to the same conclusion. the store i will use is less than a mile from my work so shipping will never be a problem again. at this point i just want a water pump that i don't have to pay out of pocket on and wait to be reimbersed. i have a back up car that i bought while i was working on her before so i figure i was just take the compromise. i am not happy by any means but willing to just put this one behind me and look forward to the next day. i have been humbled through harsh life experiences to take life and make the best of it.

newbeetle.org is a business it has value and has been sold 2x in the time I've been a member. The owner is not running this site for his health. The originator, Jeff Croft, started it I believe because he was an enthusiast, but it has evolved into a business with sponsors, ads, etc. Don't kid yourself.

sorry you weren't happy with your experience with ECS.

in my nine years of ordering from ECS, i've had very good service. one hiccup in many orders.

set up an order a year or two ago with two day shipping, as i had to get something fixed on a tight time schedule.

oops. took six days...i wasn't very happy about it, or from the response from whoever i talked to in the sales department...this individual repeatedly told me i hadn't paid for two days shipping...even though my bill showed i'd been charged. (btw, it wasn't jon).

i was a little hacked off about it.

didn't stop there. talked to the billing folks at ECS...don't remember who i talked to, but she got me squared away, right away, and refunded the charges for what i'd paid for and didn't get.

haven't had a problem since.

good luck with your new parts source.

I understand the site sponsor thing, as the owner is free to do with the site what he wishes. But when nearly every thread is responded to by that sponsor, it gets a little annoying. I think its great when they post about specials, new products and things like that. But mining for business in so many threads is off-putting.

But then I'm used to tdiclub. No banners, no pop-ups, no ads or sponsors of any kind. Yes there are Vendors, but they are held to strict rules. The site is entirely funded by donations, primarily from the annual TDIFest.

I have sent ECS literally hundreds of customers and have remained a faithful customer myself. First as a drive in customer that used their service department for major repairs and then later as an online customer even though they are only 45 minutes away. They haven't been perfect but things have always been resolved in a quick, polite and favorable manner.

I hope this hasn't changed forever but it merely a momentary growing pain that we will look back as a tiny speed bump in an otherwise flawless history.

I've bought a number of things from ECS over the last couple years, and I haven't had many problems. The customer reps have generally been polite and relatively well informed.

The ONLY problem I had, was when I ordered one of the full timing belt kits. I had them installed by a professional mechanic with a perfect track record, I've had that guy fix a LOT of things for me. BUT, the crank seal that came with the kit was completely defective. The second it went in the car it started leaking oil.

When I called ECS about a replacement, they told me "Too bad, you can't prove it. It's not our problem. Want to buy another?"

So, that kind of put a sour taste in my mouth because then I had to buy another seal (bought it elsewhere) and I had to pay to have it put in, and we looked at the defective one, and it was definitely a defect, not damaged in any way by the mechanic. ECS said that since we'd already installed it, it was my problem to deal with , no returns, no warranties, etc.

I realize that SOME manufacturers don't give warranties on mechanical parts once they have been installed, but that is few and far between. Because MOST parts I have ever bought, if they don't work, the store you bought it from will exchange it for another, mark the other as defective, and they get reimbursed by the company they bought the part from.

So I'm not sure why this has recently become an issue with ECS. It *does* seem that I"m hearing from more and more people lately that there are problems exactly like this happening at ECS, and they simply aren't willing to work with some of us.

With that said, I'll still buy from them. One bad thing doesn't negate all the good that ECS Tuning has provided for me.

I had a bad oil leak, too, just like you after my mechanic installed a 1.8T kit from ECS...It turned out to be the cam seal. I didn't mind the $12 it cost me to buy one from the dealer. What I did mind was, that it took 5 more hours for my mechanic to replace the seal, winding up costing me more money.
So, was it a faulty cam seal, or was the mechanic at fault? Your post makes me wonder. There was no problem at all with the OEM cam seal.
