Adopt mysubie.com point system...

I have a suggestion that I hope that newbeetle.org will adopt. My fiancee just bought a new subaru (couldn't convince to come over the V-dub side) and he registered himself with the subaru forum, The Ultimate Online Subaru Enthusiast Community - MySubie.com. The way they have it structured, is that you earn points for different things you do throughout the site. For instance, you earn 2 points for leaving a comment on someones profile, 3 points for creating a thread, 3 points to have a new member join that was referred by you, etc. Once you acquire enough points, you can cash them in for t-shirts or other stuff with the mysubie.com logo as well as other subie themed merchandise. Essentially, the more active you are.... the more points you earn.... It's really cool and I'm very jealous that his forum does that. I would love to be able to earn points to get a newbeetle.org t-shirt or sticker. Ultimately, it will motivate the users to become more active in the site.

We used to have rep points when we first moved to the new forum software... it was awesome, but it was used way too much by a group of members and was totally taken away.

plus i really dont see a very active store, so i dont see this really flying off.

It might would lead to more participation...but probably the contributions would be lesser - more like just post whoring just to get points. You'd see a slew of Misc Hoo-Ha posts like "what's your favorite color", "how many gumballs do you think are in this picture", "should I cut my hair"....
Basically more fluff and less helpful content.

It's a nice idea, just don't know that we are structured for that here.
