It is still the NEWBEETLE.ORG and the 2012 will be the newest BEETLE. End of story.
This is not 98-10 NEWBEETLE.ORG it's NEWBEETLE.ORG regardless of year designation.

So where's the issue?
I agree

The "issue" is this: New Beetles were built from 1998-2010. The upcoming car that replaces this outgoing model is once again simply The Beetle, a name the US market has not had since 1979.

Yes, it is the "newest" Beetle and not a whole lot different from the outgoing NB of 98-10, but there are actually some NB owners who don't like the 2012 model. It's sort of like air-cooled people who don't like Super Beetles or Bay Window Buses.

As such, I created this thread under the assumption that there would be some who would not welcome the newest Beetle onto this site since, technically, the New Beetle ceased production in 2010. There were actually a few people at Roswell who seriously questioned whether or not to welcome 2012+ models into the fold for future GTGs.

Find that hard to believe. Even the UK aircooled community like the New Bugs now. Took some time but it happened. Bit like saying that people will disregard the cheese chopped wing Bug's that were the new update of the older New Bug. Like me But a Bug convoy is still a Bug convoy, new or old

B12 is a useful vitamin. It would make a good personalized plate.

I'll assume you're British. Here in the US, some people that grew up with air-cooled Beetles love the NB's of 98-10 (like me ) while other "purists" fail to acknowledge them. Even in the water-cooled crowd, New Beetles aren't that popular. For the record, I don't particularly like the looks of the beveled fenders of the 06-10 Bugs, either, but I'd still have one if the price was right. I do think VW shows should now have 3 classes for water-cooled Beetles: 98-05, 06-10, and 12+. (or even 4 if you add convertibles, all years).

Assumed correctly

Trouble with VW Shows over here, is there are categories for different air cooled Beetles. One category for the New Beetle, sometimes a concours and a modified New Beetle class. However most shows here, and theres a lot, around 60+ a year to goto. But you will rarely see more than 3-5 New Bugs there. At some shows they have stopped with the New Beetle category as nobody goes to them to show in a new Bug.

I don't think the question is: What happens to this forum when the Beetle arrives. I think the wider picture, is.. Facebook is destroying car forums. I've seen a lot of people switch to facebook purely to keep in touch with other VW enthusiasts. I actually hate to say it, prefer the groups on there than forums.

However this forum and a few of the larger ones, WILL feel the effect of loosing people to facebook. Although this and a few larger forums have the knowledge base and search functionality to find what it is new viewers are looking for answers too. The smaller forums are quiter than ever i have noticed recently.
