Looks like that yellow Bug has a stubby antenna and LED tails, too! Great work, Al!

Michelle, I'm with you. The clouds remind me of the fog, also known as Al's Twilight Zone moment. LOL! Can't wait until May 1, 2010!

The bug is an animation of YeloJkt's beetle. The wheels are: R32 Aristos 18x7.5.... so says YeloJkt's description.

Thanks gang- i enjoyed cooking it up. Michelle maybe this years artwork came to me as i was abducted into the Cheahola fog I kinda wanted to meld many of the GTG's facets into the artwork. The mountains, the skyway and it's fog, and of course the Dragon and our nB's. It was an enjoyable project for me. I'm glad you all approve.

Hmmmm well this sounds interesting. I've never been to a GTG. What are they like? What goes on at a GTG? I might try to attend to meet some of you fine folk. Even tho I am Texan now I grew up down in the low country. The Carolinas hold a special place in my heart. The timing coincides with my bi-annual trip to Spartanburg SC to visit my sister. I usuallly fly to visit her but I might drive to go to this GTG. Would be a 2 day trip one way for me and approx 1172 miles.

Do come and join us. You will never regret it. I drove almost that far to the last one and I definitely plan to make it to the next one. I highly recommend it. You will meet a fine group of people there and have a drive you'll never forget.

I concur with John/SixChuter.

GtG's range from a small impromptu gathering at your local burger joint or park, heck even a parking lot. They even are of great nation-wide magnitude, such as Roswell, Texas New Beetle Roundup, NBeast and now the Tail Of The Dragon. The TOD, in my opinion will be the next Roswell- this looks like the last Roswell this year.

You know the lay of the land around those parts, so it's not news to you on the beauty of the land. Meeting up with like minded beetle nuts and just all around good people made the TOD and instant classic and a must-attend event.

I'm amazed that many of us drove 5+ hours to get together, to do what?.... Drive!! And we all loved it. That should measure the thrill scale for you. I hope to see you in roughly 47 weeks

Hey gang, does Bryson City or nearby have a local paper. I'm sure they'd get a thrill of this now annual event

scarabY2k, hopefully it will workout that I can come. Sounds fun. BTW, I see you're from Jacksonville. I used to live there back in the early 70's. Dad was in the navy - stationed at (what was) Cecil Field. Lived near Ed White high school. Anyway, i was admiring pics of Cup. The paint job is stunning. How do you keep a dark color like that looking so good? Mind if I ask what products/regimen you use? Another good looking black NB is Gus'dad's Gus.

I slew the dragon about a year ago, on my 2002 Harley Road King. It was fantastic, I never felt more in rhythm with my motorcycle than I did riding those 13 miles. I'd love to do it in my Bug.

How many people do you think attend a gtg like this?

Last year we had 14 nB's and 26 or 27 enthusiasts. Hopefuly the 2K10 ToD GTG can double that. That's the main reason we began this thread a year in advance. And if you can judge a GTG by repeat performers, well, you'll find that 100% that did this years event will be returning in 2K10.

For a good idea, go to the "gallery" and under "photos, get togethers" check out the thread "Official 2K09 ToD GTG photo thread".

We all stayed at the Ridge Top Motel in Bryson City and it was agreed this will be our "headquarters" again in 2010. They offered us a group discount so the lodging was quite reasonable. So, spread the word, start saving your pennies, plan your vacation time accordingly and join us as we tame the Dragon once again in 2K10

Agreed with all above statements. I think it was pretty awesome the distance that some people drove to enjoy the ToD. As well as those who were a bit strapped for cash but refused to take no for an answer. I myself became one of those people within a matter of days before the cruise. I refused to not be there and boy am I glad. I (and Matt) had a blast! It's a weekend I wish I could live over and over every day until the 2k10 ToD! I can't imagine what it would be like to have more NB at the 2k10 version. We might have to tell Ridge Top to make a bigger parking lot! haha

We should see if there is a local paper to see if maybe they'd enjoy a fun article about us crazy people. It could be titled "Beetles Slay the Dragon!" or "Swarm of Beetles Slay the Dragon" Either way it might be interesting and maybe it would give Ridge Top some more buisness if we mention where we stayed and how great the hospitality was. I'm sure they'd appreciate that as well. Newspapers love to hear about people from all over the US coming to one area.

Only 47 weeks!!!!! Holy cow! Time really does fly doesn't it?? I can't wait, I'm so excited!!!

If I wasn't graduating the day of the ToD event this year, I would have been there! I've been wanting to go and our local VW group goes on ocassion but they are more speed demons and I want to go to enjoy both the driving and the scenery.

Might just have to try to make this one next year! Have to see where life takes me and the fiance before then (we'll be getting ready for our wedding in May so we may not have the time) but I would love to go!

I'll be calling the Ridge Top this weekend giving them the heads up that the 1st weekend in May will forever be the ToD GTG and that we're planning on using them as our headquarters again in 2K10. I will also be reserving our ground floor non-smoking room for Friday May 30th & Saturday May 1st 2010 at that time

My friends call me Al

I don't know if you've been in Jscksonville since your last stint, MAN! This city has gone through some major changes. I've been a resident since '89, and i'm in awe of the growth. And the icing on the cake is that we have an NFL team.... Loves me some Jaguars

Yep Cecil Field is now the Cecil Commerce Center, with a major road/interchange connecting it to I-10. If ever you're in Jax again, let me know- love to meet ya

And yes Gus has a sweet black beetle. Another sweet beetle is Feist, owned by our ToD organizer and chief Dragonslayer, Gary

That must be tough to see on a black NB

Can't wait until May! It'll be such a blast and since we are able to attest to the fact that it was so much fun, I wouldn't be surprised if we see 20 or more NB at the 2K10 event! I'm excited to see the changes a year can bring to people and their cars!

*sigh* why does May have to be so far away???
