I think it was $45 per night. Definitely no more than $50 and we all stayed 2 nights.

Can't wait until May! It'll be such a blast and since we are able to attest to the fact that it was so much fun, I wouldn't be surprised if we see 20 or more NB at the 2K10 event! I'm excited to see the changes a year can bring to people and their cars!

*sigh* why does May have to be so far away???
I know we'll have at least 1 more car and passenger....right Amy

Yeah if you mentioned the org it was $45 a night. Even without that they still weren't too expensive.

I'm looking forward to it. Hopefully my situation won't change too much until then so that I won't have a last minute cancelation. Man, I would hate that. I almost thought about it this year with all of Probie's repairs, but I knew I would have missed so much...and boy was I right. Even Matt agrees that we had a LOT of fun at the GTG and wouldn't miss it for the world next time! I'm starting the saving now, so regardless, I will have the money next year. In all honesty, it was a rather inexpensive trip. Between the hotel, fuel, and food....it wasn't that bad. Cheaper than going up to Michigan and visiting family actually haha.

Yep Cecil Field is now the Cecil Commerce Center, with a major road/interchange connecting it to I-10. If ever you're in Jax again, let me know- love to meet ya

And yes Gus has a sweet black beetle. Another sweet beetle is Feist, owned by our ToD organizer and chief Dragonslayer, Gary
Well Hi Al! My real name is Mark. Last time I was in Jax was 1998 visiting my sister (who lives in Spartanburg now). Yeah, Jax had changed ALOT then since the 70's and Im sure its even that much different now. Hope to meet ya at ToD.

So Gary, looked at some pics of Feist. Al is right - your black Beetle looks awesome too.

So the question still stands guys - whats your secret to keeping that black paint looking so good?

I think one thing that helps for me, it the fact that Cup is garage kept- that and I wash her once a week. Here lately, i've been slacking- doing a lot of landscaping and preparing for Roswell. I wash her with a wash and wax that my company sells. She's always dried with a shammy (the absorber) followed by a microfiber towel, just to put a buff/shine to the wax that's in the wash solution. The wax I use is Meguiar's NXT Generation spray wax which is a superior product. I try to wax her at least every 3 months. The wax in the wash and wax helps in between the more detailed Meguiars waxing.

Another product that i've discovered, is called Perma-Seal wax. I bought it at a car show a year ago. The stuff is excellent. I asked the guy if they made a quick detail and he told me to mix 4 oz. of the wax in a 32oz. spray bottle of water. i mixed it up and I tell ya, it is a great quick detailer. Spray it on... apply with a microfiber cloth, and wipe off with another microfiber. Badda Bing, she's all purdy and shiny

Product recap.
Wash and wax by theochem
The Absorber brand shammy
Microfiber cloths
Meguiars NXT Generation Tech Spray Wax
Perma Seal/water solution- quick detail

For the tires I use Meguiars's Hot Wheels Gel and a foam applicator.

That's about it. I enjoy washing Cup. She'll be getting a full-on wash/wax/detail, so she'll be rolling purdy on her way to Roswell.

I know i'm going to Roswell, but still my excitement for next year's ToD is running hot!! Can't wait.

Remember gang... spread the word

My process is pretty much the same as Al's. Same products too
However I will say, my next one won't be black. Too much upkeep for this old fart

Great minds mang

While we're in the early stages of this thread and prep for next year, I'd like to throw this bone out. You know how a lot of were after we ran the Dragon?... like kids at the end of a amusement ride? Remember how some of us wanted to do it again? Well, maybe we can kinda map out a plan for doing so. We could make another pass and for those who want to opt out, find something to do at Deals Gap. I didn't do a whole lot of browsing, but is there a watering hole/restaurant there, where the folks can rest their bones while the others make another pass? I think it would be nice if we all go back to BC together, at least for the bugavan sake. And we can't forget the pic at that sweet spot. What do you think?

For a little R & R while some re-run the dragon -- we could head south on Rte 28 and stop at the Fontana Village Lodge. Looks like a neat place, it's on the way to Bryson City and it's a really cool road (any road with a turn called "hellbender" is okay in my book).

That looks like a great spot. That way we still can get our group photo, and bugavan back to BC together. We'll see what Sir Gary says.

It's great that we're planning for next year so early; especially us who made the maiden voyage. The TOD2K10 can't help but get better, if that's possible

If memory serves me, we'd be heading south on 28 right at Deals Gap? That would bypass where we pulled off at the bottom of the dam for the 2K09 photo op. That said, I remember talk of another photo op spot at Fontana Lake? And it might be in a less dangerous area too. That would work for me since plans are to head back to BC on 28 anyway.

I would have made a second run on the Dragon this year had I not been having issues with a bad drivers side axle shaft. As Al mentioned it would be ideal to bugavan back to BC as a group since we left the Ridge Top that way. So, someplace for those that don't want to repeat, need a place to R&R for an hour. I'm definitely up for that option I just don't know the area enough.

I so can not wait till May 1st 2010. I'm usually not one to wish time away, but I have a feeling that the 2K10 ToD is going to be a much bigger event than 09. It's been confirmed we'll have the same attendees as the maiden event and so far we have 3 more nB's who have signed up to be a part of Org history. I think it was Michelle who mentioned dropping a word to the local paper (if there is one) that we plan to make this an annual event. I think that is a killer idea (thanks Al & Michelle) so I'll make that my task to inform them.

soooo weird question time.

How much did you spend in Gas at TOD2k9? Was a Full Tank all the entire pass needed? It sounds loong enough that you guys had to stop for gas. Coming from Miami (not 100% of what to expect from highway mpg from a NB), just to ATL is about 720 miles or roughly 2 or 3 tank fulls both ways.

Just trying to set up a gas budget for the trip.

EDIT:
Ok, I think I need to just set up a Bank account for this trip just to be safe! I forgot about the $25 in tolls I need to Get to and From ATL. STOOPID toll roads

That's why your NB should be diesel. I'm averaging (with an Automatic) 38mpg! I don't think I stopped to fill up the entire weekend....I can go 600 miles in 1 tank! (get a diesel) Just think what you'd get with a manual! Probably like 45mpg or more! (get a diesel) But I'll let the gassers fill you in on what they had to spend on gas......(get a diesel) HAHA ok I've plugged enough....

We'll probably be going back up to north GA later this summer --I'll check out the Fontana Lodge for photo-op and R & R.

I'll also finish scouting the other twisty for a possible Friday afternoon side trip.

Not only did I do the whole trip on one tank, I didn't need to fill up until about a week after getting home! And I sure as heck wasn't hypermiling on the ToD (just ask Gary)!

Exactly why we began the planning for 2K10 when we returned from this years event. 5 bucks a week would pretty much pay for your entire weekend including lodging.

So I'm gonna bump this thread, simply because I can!

I'm also SUPER excited for May 1st!!! I will definately have more money set aside and hopefully more mods on Probie. He'll look like a whole new car!

You're goin'? Cool!
And 25 dollars in tolls? That's nothin'! I can't get off the Island without paying that much in tolls!
