Did you see on our weekend, there will be Mini's, Corvettes, and Hondas! Those are big groups, including us! They better think about getting that slide cleared fast! Lots of businesses are going to suffer from this unfortunately.

I've been following dealsgap.com; they've had daily updates. Yes, Business is big concern! Apparently the Deals Gap people are meeting tomorrow with several Very Important People to work on getting at least the Dragon reopened. As I understand it, The Dragon itself is fine--it's the access to the Dragon on the Tenn side that is the problem.

Are you the one planning to come thru Memphis? What route are you taking to the TOD?
I'm sure it will be one grandiose XBox Party that weekend; hopefully the cops will not get called.

Actually I live north of Nashville, I'll be catching up to the bugcaravan that will be in Murfreesboro on Friday.

Well, whether TOD is open or not....Molly and I are so excited, we're about to pee in our pants! I got the go-ahead from the husband that we have the $$$ (well, we don't, but, that's what credit cards are for) and anyway, Molly's 17th birthday will be the weekend after that, so this will be her birthday present.

I talked to Kathy at the Ridge Top and she found us a room! Looks like we're going! Awe, man, I can't wait. I love caravans and fun times. I may have to get a tattoo or something for the occasion! LOL!

Am I the only one that's this excited???????

Lots of other twisty and beautiful drives in the same area, apparently. I'm not going to let the road closure ruin our awesome GtG!

Just the drive up the hill to the motel is pretty awesome. I realize the ToD is the main draw for this GTG but as Cameron said, there are lots of beautiful stretches of road to drive in the area. We're only going to miss out on 11 little miles of road. It's a bit of a bummer that we may not do the ToD but even if we just sit at the motel for a couple of days visiting with old friends and meeting new ones, the trip will be a total success for me. Don't let this small inconvenience ruin the excitement we've built for this trip. I've been planning to enjoy myself for almost a year now and this isn't going to change that.

Several posts back it was mentioned that the ToD section isn't affected, only access from the Tennessee side. That said and if it's fact, we can run the dragon back and forth from the Robbinsville side. Twice and from opposite directions is just as much a thrill the 2nd tme.

I totally agree with you John. Denise & I have been looking forward to this GTG for the past year and it's more the GTG part that we're looking forward to.

HAHAHA, I love it. Wait a few more weeks......we'll all be wearing depends to contain all the excitement
This is about the point where there's no turning back and we're all running at full ToD volume

As of now, the Dragon is closed at the NC state line. If the NC business community can get TN to agree, they could open it up to the roadblock and run it up and back, if they could agree on providing emergency services (simple if they had one lane open at the roadblock, they apparently had one lane open earlier this month).

If there are any orgers from Tennessee, please contact your government, the DOT, your state senators, reps, and the governor and encourage them to work out a plan with North Carolina!

Then if I read that correctly, we should be able to run the ToD up from Robbinsville. The actual 318 turns in X miles is a good 20-30 miles from the Tn/NC border.

A couple of points -- as Mrs Raff mentioned to me -- the Tail of the Dragon souvenir shops at Deals Gap are not on the closed section of Hwy 129.

The Cherohala Skyway is awesome in itself -- and if the Dragon is still closed -- there are other twisty scenic routes -
here's just one example: Moonshiner 28 from Deals Gap to Wahalla SC

Once they get to work on the Dragon -- a lot of rock can be moved in 4 weeks. Think positive thoughts.

I like your attitude!! It doesn't matter where we ride, it will still be a blast and we can still shop!
