Talking Calling all NB Peeps in Cali, Arizona and Nevada!!

Joey and I have been talking about the TOD for 2010. It's about 2,100 give or take some miles to NC. I think this would be one heck of a trip! We would like to get there in 3 days and see some sights on the way out and on the way back. If we do decide to go, would anyone be interested in takin this adventure with us? Carabuggin across the country!!

We will be glad to join you as you pass through the middle part of the country. Just tell us your route so we can figure out where to join in. I have found very few things in life that are as much fun as Carabuggin'!!!!

Evilina -

I have put myself down as a solid probable for this event. If you guys are going to overnight in Amarillo, let me know. I will join you.

John (SixChuter) -

Are you going out I-40 through Little Rock? If so, where would you want to meet up? Henrietta or Webber Falls area? I know that I can drive from Amarillo to Fort Smith in 7 to 8 hours from my house (let's just call it Amarillo for this discussion). That includes a stop in OKC for an early lunch or a stop in Henrietta at the Cracker Barrel for a little later lunch. Of course, I tend to leave early (before 8).

It looks like it is about a 19 hour trip from Amarillo to Bryson City. Probably need to overnight somewhere in Arkansas.

Were you all planning on arriving on Friday 4/30 or on Thursday 4/29?

I was just doing some google mapping and we are aiming to leave Tues or Wed. I know we pretty much saw what there was to see from AZ to ABQ. So maybe our group will aim to haul it to Amarillo. Spend the night on Tues. Head out first thing Wed morning, see the sights and then spend the night in Little Rock AR OR if everyone is still itching to drive Memphis, TN. Wake up early Thursday morning and head for Bryson City.

This is just a rough draft of our itinerary. I will post more updates as I start getting OK's and confirmation from everyone.

Happy to see that you are coming Sue!

I think most of us are making reservations at the Ridge Top for Friday night and Saturday night. If you are planning on arriving on Thursday, we need to know pretty soon.

Now thinking about it, we too just booked for Friday and Saturday.

Thank goodness we still have time to plan this all out!

Anyone interested in a beetle photo opt on Beale Street in Memphis?

Which way is everyone planning on heading in?

Evilina -

John (sixchuter) and I have been swapping emails on this. I was planning on heading to Henryetta OK via I-40 on 4/28 and overnighting there. John, Llona and I and possibly salsa-man would then leave bright and early on 4/29 and go to Murphreesboro, TN. All of this is on I-40 BTW. On 4/30, we would go to Bryson City, NC arriving around noonish.

I think I can speak for John that this allows us to get there without being overly stressed and tired which is a big deal for us. I'm driving solo so 10 hours is pretty much my max. The above plan is about 9 hours or so of driving on Thursday.

Henryetta is 6 hours or so from Amarillo (where I am). Layout your path (I-40 most likely) and see how that fits with your plans. I'm flexible enough that if we wanted to drive to Fort Smith or maybe even North Little Rock on 4/28, I can probably do that if John wants to. I can leave any time on 4/28. If you guys were to overnight in Amarillo on 4/27, I think we could all leave on 4/28 and make Little Rock. For sure we can make Ft Smith. That's a 7 or so hour drive from Amarillo.

John will probably chime in. If we could overnight in Ft Smith or Little Rock, that would give us some free time in the driving to stop in Memphis for a group shot/sight see maybe or maybe something in Nashville and still make Murphreesboro within a comfortable time. John will be checking on hotels in TN. I was just going to stay in a Super 8 in Henryetta. I have nothing firm and have made no reservations other than Bryson City.

Thanks for the info Sue! I will start looking into this...

Casey!
How much time did you plan on taking off from work? Did you have an ideal leave date? Mon? Tues? Wed?

Well what I was thinking was, I could work Monday and possibly head to Vegas after, stay with you guys (if I am alone and you don't mind) then we head out Tuesday like you said, or do it Tuesday and head out Wednesday, I will need to check my school schedule at the time and I'm sure whatever job I get would be okay with it if I give enough notice

If the bf (Peter) will be joining me then we could probably just meet you in Vegas the day we all plan on leaving

The more the merrier! The Ritz Powellington (my house) is always open to cool NB peeps as yourself and your co-pilot. So a place to stay is not a problem. Heading out Tues is looking pretty good so far....Now how long are you and Fiona able to drive is the next question...Hopefully Peter will be there with ya and you can have a second driver. Leaving out first thing Tues morning and hightailing it to ABQ or Amarillo. Vegas to Amarillo is a 12 hour drive according to google. Would that be too rough?

right on!!!!!! well that sounds like a plan then, I or we will get there Monday night, I can drive for a good while as long as there is a decent size break, Fiona is fine now that shes got new plumbing 12 hours is quite the drive...as for Peter driving, I don't think he would EVER drive my car even if I paid him but we could deffinitely give it a shot

I want to lay some money down on a bet that Peter will drive your car no matter what. I've never seen a healthy, functional, red-blooded male let a female drive exclusively for more than a few miles.

I bet a 6 pack of diet coke he drives within 100 miles which would probably be within 2 hours.

Or at least once you guys get out of an area where people might actually recognize him behind the wheel of a Beetle.

Though, if he does come along and DOESN'T offer to drive for awhile, we might have to get together and kick his arse!

I'm here but I am confused now. I have Susan arriving in Henryetta, OK on the 28th (Wednesday). Early on the morning of the 29th (Thursday) we'll meet her and hopefully salsa-man in Henryetta, OK and drive to Murfreesboro, TN. And on Friday morning (the 30th) we'll drive to Bryson City, NC.

Here is my confusion. Who is planning to overnight in Ft Smith or Little Rock and on which night will that be?
