Question ToD 2010 DVD?

Ok! So I decided to move this over here and make a poll.

I personally (probably because I'm in Vegas) never heard of the TOD and of course what does one naturally due when they are unaware of an event/location? You check on YouTube! So for the majority of the morning I was watching quite a few videos that made me wanna And then I saw one that caught my eye. It was made by another VW group but for R32's.

Here is the video!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N20qNjK-TR0

After watching it, I then realized...OMG!! I can see it all now!! Done the same way BUT NEW BEETLES!!! FREAKIN FANTASTIC!

I don't know. Just a thought and it was a GREAT video!

Or maybe I just watch too many movies.....

*UPDATE*

The videographer sent me a proposal to tape our run but then he asks this,

How long does it take to do the Dragon?
Will we be doing the run multiple times?
Are we doing anything else after the run?

Now my 2 questions to everyone is...

Would you be willing to pay $17-$20 for a DVD of the run? This will include the DVD (could be up to 2 hours long!) with a full color cover of our original artwork aka (Al making a SAWEET DVD cover that looks like our shirts )and also like the video I linked previously a shortened video uploaded on to Youtube.

Would you be okay with camera people asking for interviews before and after the run?

His price is ok to do the whole thing but I was wanting to get a feel of how many people are even interested in the whole idea.

I'd do it! Not many people can say they have a VIDEO from their trip to the ToD Besides, sooner or later this would come up, and we have to try it to know if we are going to like it. Count me in! I don't mind being interviewed either. Though I think we should have to be near our beetles to be interviewed, I think they would want some extra time in the lime light

(Our kids will be STARS!!!)

WTH, I'll buy one! I need to talk to mom. I think she's starting to think I'm crazy for doing all this planning this early, but when I told her we might not be able to get a ground floor room she was happy for my early planning! LOL! I'd say I'll definitely buy a DVD, maybe two if mom wants her own! This is going to be SO MUCH FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Typically to run the dragon (depending on car amount and speed) isn't very long. It's only 11 miles at about, I think the posted limit is 30mph. But with multiple cars, he's gonna need to be there for a bit to make sure he gets us all. Not everyone likes to run it more than once. Trust me, if you aren't ready for it...it's a workout. I recommend you work your arms and legs before you do this. I was exhausted after the first run. I did not go back for a second. I don't know how long he plans to be there, but if we do the car show maybe he could tape that as well.

Here is the only issue though. The cruise is not JUST the Tail of the Dragon. We do the whole 100 and some odd miles. Up through the Cherahola Skyway and such...That in itself can be exciting (especially if it's foggy again!). Doing it that way can take awhile, especially because we stop for lunch. But if he's just taping the Dragon, then it doesn't take THAT long. I think we started our voyage at around.10ish...and after getting caught in some nasty rain, and getting caught in nastier fog, I think we finished around 2pm? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it did take some time because we had to stop due to downpour and drive real slow due to fog. Like I said though, the dragon itself isn't that long. Only 11 miles. Just depends on what he wants to record.

Here is a video from sullyTDI on the Dragon YouTube - Tail Of The Dragon New Beetle Style

I think it would be nice to have a video of the entire run from inside a car.

WOW! What a turn!!

The videographer that may do the DVD with, if we get enough people on board will have 3-4 people taping the whole event. 1 or 2 of them will be with us in our beetles and the others will be in another vehicle and in different off the road spots.

Still hoping to make it. I'm actually interested in the DVD whether I make the trip or not. But gosh darn it, I'm gonna make it this time. (the bug's almost back in one piece.)

There wasn't an option for a plain old no but I'm not really interested in a video. I can certainly understand the interest in a vid for those who may never get back to the Dragon again and want a copy for posterity. That said, and I'll reiterate in the 2K10 ToD thread that the making of the video shouldn't impede what the other participants are there for, to run the Dragon. Alternate plans need to made for both instances.

That's exciting! both cuz it'd be cool if you make it, and just having phrog in one piece again is exciting in and of itself!

WHOA!! No no no see I don't want to have 2 seperate things going on. I want us all together doing the run. If we make the alternate plans it just won't be the same. Hense why I was trying to get a feel for people actually wanting to do a video. If this is impeding on any of the participants, then we won't go the "videographer" route (pardon the pun) and think of a new idea that will not deter or change the GTG. This was just an idea and we don't have to go this route (pardon the pun AGAIN). If there is a good amount of us that want to do a video, then I am sure that we can all take some video clips and make our own DVD's without having to make alternate plans. You are the head of the ToD and I don't want to step on any toes.

As for the poll...I was just trying to be funny...

No stepping on toes, and I really don't want to curb your enthusiasm It is EXACTLY that enthusiasm by you and all the others that will make the 2K10 an event to remember. Your poll is just that, a poll to determine interest. No harm, no foul

I'm interested in getting a window mount and videoing it for either myself or could share my vantage point with the production crew.

I would think that the R32 deal was merely them being filmed by a crew and not multiple runs for specific shots...that's why a nice number of cars helps us. And if folks want to do a second run that could be another chance for them to get shots.

I have a decent new beetle video collection, so I am a bit biased on wanting documentation of a trip...even if this turns out to be just a 5 minute music video that is nicely cut.

If a couple of our own group have video in their cars along with stills from anyone or everyone, we can make our own DVD. I'm working on a DVD from Roswell (as time permits) that will probably turn out reasonably nice. It probably won't be as fancy as the one referenced here (I watched it), but it will be OK.

It's kind of fun to take pictures from each person or group and see what that person saw or experienced. No one is required to contribute and everyone would have the option of getting the DVD for a small (cost of mailing and the DVD) expense.

Just a thought. I'm not volunteering but it is possible that I might as we get closer.

Now that's a cool idea.

If you know any race people and they have this set-up, you need to borrow it.

ooh. that thing is cool.. i went with the $0.15 cents + my existing camera route goin to Roswell, however....

except i used zip ties

i was shooting timelapse video of the whole drive [or most of it anyways]..driving video .. only problem is getting crud on the windshield! hmm.. maybe i'll see about getting the power cord adapter and mount it on the fog light grill.

I also have a regular video camera if someone has a copilot that wants to have fun with it.
