Default TOD question

I would love to go but can't this year. Not enough time nor enough money at this point but I'd like to know how big this will actually be so I can plan to perhaps come with one (or more) Nb's the next time!

This doesn't seem like a regular size GTG.

How many confirmed beetles are coming? Are there plans for next year? Does it alternate between Roswell and the TOD?

I have so many questions. Too bad I don't have as much money and time as questions isn't it. I could find out in person then.

I think we have somewhere between 45 and 50 coming. I believe the GtG is every year, always the first Saturday in May.

I don't believe there are plans to alternate it with Roswell, though time and money-wise I might have to do that.

For whatever reason I thought it was much larger than that Quality not quantity right?

How many people go to Roswell? That is the largest Nb gathering isn't it?

We had 53 cars at Roswell last year. Roswell was in the hundreds for the first few years but interest died off, not to mention for a lot of folks it's just too far to go every year. that's why we voted for every OTHER year, to give people more time to plan accordingly and hopefully get more numbers. There were a LOT of "new" people at Roswell last year, however, and I expect many more Org members will be involved in 2k11.

But yes, it is Quality, not Quantity. I don't know about TOD (though I suspect it will be the same), but to me Roswell has always been less about the cars and more about the people. I have a number of friends that I have seen only 9 times since 2000. But every time we get back together it's like the conversations pick up where they left off.

The ToD was it's maiden year and will remain about the beetle family. The cars are what we have in common that creates the bond with friends/like minded folks that we look forward to seeing every year. The majority of the ToD core group also get together several times a year for smaller GTG's

Seems like it should be more centrally located to get the most people say in hmmmm Iowa? :-)

edit to add: if it was around here I'd be happy to help organize.

How is this promoted other than the forum? I'd think VW dealers would be ok with having a flyer in the waiting room. Of course, our cars are so sturdy and well made we'd never be there right?

The only other place on the net is the ToD on Facebook. We also carry cards for tagging cars we see around town hoping to spread the word. Iowa wouldn't be too bad a drive to NC every year

ToD started fairly normal size last year. 12 cars was it? Not too bad for a first time. It was such a hit we decided to make it an annual thing. And after looking at the picture thread for it, I think a lot of people wanted to join in the fun. And this year it just exploded!!! Which I'm really happy about. This will be the biggest GtG for me! Next year it'll be ToD AND Roswell....I'm gonna make it happen! 11 is my lucky number!!!

You should definately join next year. Even if the numbers are small, you won't regret going. We all had SOOOOOO much fun last year. I'm getting all hyped up just thinking about the fun we had last year and I can't believe we are 10 day away! AHHHHHHH

The Tail of the Dragon (Hwy 129) is permanently located in NC/TN and cannot be moved.

How is this promoted other than the forum?

Look here:hotVWs.com Thanks to Al scaraby2k
I hope this helps

Being old and decrepid I'll have to leave the Dragon where it sits

I have yet to go to Roswell, but the wife has never been to Vegas and wants to; so we will do a combined trip for both, just do not know when.

Move to ToD to Iowa, you guys are funny...

Five, woo hoo!

Perhaps we could drive our NB's through some wheat fields making a design of the Dragon and they will think the aliens paid us a visit... again?

We have three nB's and one old type 1 (VW didn't call them beetles til after our 67 was produced)

Maybe I'll have to make Tail of the Hog or Pin the Tail on the Corn Cob here in Iowa.

It would work. When we lived in pig country, Deerfield, NH and celebrated the 20th anniversary of Woodstock on our 115 acre spread, we advertised it as "pigstock"
