As the proud [new] owner of a 2003 Cyber Green 1.8T S; I quickly noticed a cabin funk that can only be described as: "Waxy Crayon Box".
Armed with a new STP Cabin Air Filter [part no. CAF7702] from the local parts store I proceeded to operate on the right side of the dashboard to access/change-out the old one. You'll probably discover LOTS of debris and fotch when you get to it but found it a -very- easy operation that folks should not be scared of.
DO make sure to have a vacuum handy to suck up the debris before removing the old filter and set the climate control button to "recirculate" before turning off the igintion key[the lighted button with the looped arrow next to the lighted A/C button] since that will also protect the fan blades from trash being dropped down into the chute underneath the cabin air [or some call it the "pollen"] filter. If you don't remember when yours was changed last, you probably should do it some time when you have 45 mins [first timers] or so.

It's helpful to have a 'magnetic parts bowl' handy to keep the screws in while you work, otherwise the operation is pretty straight forward and easy, not to mention inexpensive.
