Default How To: Change AC Dust / Pollen Filter

Here's a quick DIY for replacing your cabin AC Filter:
You should replace your AC Filter at least every 20K miles as it keeps the funky/musty AC smells at bay. It's SUPER EASY to do, and it should take only 10-15 minutes if you have the basic tools.

Tools needed:
#20 Torx, and (optional) driver
1/4 socket
Small socket wrench
Replacement Filter Element

Gettting started:
#1. Push the center dash piece straight back toward the windshield and remove.

#2. Using the Torx socket and small socket wrench, remove the 2 screws.

#3. Gently pry up the passenger side dash panel, which is held in by small plastic tabs.

#4. Remove Torx screws holding AC filter cover housing in place, and remove cover.

#5. Push back 2 tabs and remove old filter element and plastic frame.

#6. Swap new filter element, and re-use filter frame.

#7. Re-insert filter making sure tabs on frame match up with filter housing.

#8. I chose to Febreze the Filter cover since it had a cotton like insulation that might trap the residual stink.

#9. Put everything back together and enjoy!

Great .... And I have been putting this off for two or more years. And to think, I have had everything out on the other side, but never looked at the passenger side. Now if I can just find that filter I bought a good long while ago and do this real soon.
