New Beetle Rear Lights

Here's the simple process of removing the rear lenses on the NB.
[b]Tools needed for this Mod:[b/]
Small Flathead Screwdriver
Some electrical tape (or rag substitute)
15 minutes of labor time

Removing or changing the rear corner light assemblies and accessing the rear license plate bulbs are probably the easiest technical mods done to the NB.

The rear corner lenses are easily removed by carefully inserting a small flathead screwdriver head into the inboard side of the assembly (covered with either protective tape, or a rag). Once inserted, apply light pressure to wedge the assembly out of the bumper opening - just far enough to finish removing with your hand (picture - above left). The rear license plate assembly is similarly removed by wedging-out from the bumper opening from the top (picture - above right). Access allows you to change the bulbs, and/or the lens assemblies themselves.

BugMod didn't have a How-To on the Front Corners, so I will try to explain with the use of a stolen picture or two from the org...

On your front Markers (pre-2006 and non-Turbo S) there is a tab on the outer corner that looks pretty much like this...

(which by the way can be found here if you are looking for the clear ones to go with your clear corners)

You simply slide the tab to the side and pull off - this exposes a philips head screw - unscrew and pull side marker out.
