Default Installing New Tach

I ordered an after market tach from Summit Racing last week. It was an Auto Guage 5inch tach. I was wondering if anyone knows how to intall, or has installed one in thier beetle. I figure I should give my dash a bit more character.

I was once going to use an Autometer mini shift light, I followed Autometer's guidance and purchased their tach adapter etc. and worked along with the use of the Bentley manual, I hooked everthing up accordingly and went around and around with both Autometer and Bentley Techlines but it never worked correctly.

I finally decided that this was for the best and remove the entire assembly, I realized it really wasn't a necessary addition to my car.

2000 and up models work off of data packet signals, not the standard signal that would come from the coil of say a '71 Dodge Charger with big block 440CID engine.

Earlier than year 2000 Beetles are different, I believe they have an output coming off the gauge cluster but I'm per Bentley, however I don't know whether or not they are operating on the same data signal format.

I have actually found this wire behind the odometer..but when I spliced the wire the tach never matched my oem gauge and it made the engine seem like it was misfiring. When it did that I unhooked it and it stopped. I also went with a shift light before the autometer tach and the light would blink every couple of seconds. If you still want to know which wire I'll post the color and take some pics...

I have been told by autometer that I need to get a tach adapter, but if what you say is true, I am about to just return everything! It looks hot, but it is just shaping up to be a big pain in the you know what! Hopefully Summit will cut me a break!

Believe me, I went through all that and ended up losing a lot of time and some money.

Any directions for hooking up oil pressure gauge and temp gauge? I have a 3 gauge pod for the center dash. And my boost gauge is allready hooked up.
