Question Should I let my hubby install my clutch?

Big dilemma! My husband is hell-bent on installing my clutch. He is great with old cars and bikes but I'm pretty sure this will be beyond him.

Has anyone installed a clutch themselves or have any idea how hard it will be?

Cool

I don't see this as being a big problem as long as he agrees up front to surrender and take it to the dealer for a proper repair should he not succeed. He is providing you with a car to drive while he engages in this exercise in self-flaggellation ...

I've got the workshop manual for it and my warranty has already been voided but I am sooooooo scared! The only thing he has installed on my car so far is a new gear knob

I will threaten to hand paint his car with house paint if something goes wrong hehehe

Hmmm...tell him that you will be shopping for some nice floral stenciling to etch onto the glass of his favorite ride should he screw this up! (but tell him that you totally have faith in his mechanical ability...)

Changing the clutch is not to bad it is just alot of work. It will require the use of two jacks(one to hold the engine so you can move it up and down, and one to remove the tranny with)at the same time. Just bag and mark the various nuts and bolts and parts(sometimes)that are removed, take your time and have fun with it or you might as well let the dealer do it.

Only if he is familiar and use to working on these cars, or, if you believe that love conquers all...

Well, that leaves a high level of familiarity in working on these new tech. VW's along with a meticulous work ethic, if he doesn't possess these attributes then do yourself a favor and take it to the dealer or a trusted VW/Audi specialist who offers a good warranty on their work.

Properly replacing the clutch on these cars is NO joke and will haunt you later if not done right in the first place, not to mention, it's a very time consuming process and you won't want to do it again anytime soon.

P.S. Now might be the time to consider installing a qualit performance clutch assembly.

I'm convinced now that he shouldn't attempt to do this himself just in case. I shall find a professional to install it for me.

Yeah I have a performance clutch kit sitting there ready to go. My stock VW clutch only lasted 42000 km's

Thank you for everyone's advice!!!
