Thumbs up K & N Filter change

I caved in and did it yesterday...I went out and bought a K&N filter for Buddy. The son of one of my employees is the Assistant Manager at a Checker Auto Parts and he gave me a hook up on the K&N air filter, K&N oil filter and cleaner/recharge kit for the air filter plus a 6-pack of Castol GTX 5W-30 oil all for $65.00!! The air filter alone was $65.00 at retail. I am going to Gurnee VW this morning to have them change all of it for me. I will let you all know if I feel an improvement in acceleration and MPG. From what I have been told by others that have dropped a K&N in their 2.0 that they have noticed an improvement. Plus with the price of petro dropping, I have been feeding Buddy 93 octane gasoline and have noticed a difference with that alone.

um...they probably won't do that...my guess would be they would say the K&N's would void the warranty, esppecially the air filter, but I could be wrong.

Don't want to start a war - just the safest commentary I can post on K&N.

No shop will take your "parts" and install them for you. They make most/all of their profits on parts, so you're on your own there...

I have had shops do installs with my parts before. You just have to have a good relationship with the shop.

I was reading on an Audi site the other day about people buying and bringing higher quality oil to their Audi dealer, rather than use the synthetic the dealer offers...it is not unheard of.

As to Mark...ok, I was just making sure you weren't frowning at me...I have read your views on K&N before, I believe.

Thumbs up

Well I just got back to work after having the guys at Gurnee VW install my new air filter, oil filter and change my oil. Like I said, I took all my own stuff in and they hooked me up, including washing the car afterwards. They even allowed me to remain in the service area (safety glasses on) and watch how they did the change so I can do it myself next time. I saw where all the pieces remove for the air filter, the skid plate, oil pan bolt and oil filter; all very straight forward. I will be tackling my next oil change and on my wife's NB solo. A great bunch of techs and crew at Gurnee V-Dub Thanks Brad and Michael!!!!
