Default Install New Samco Turbo Inlet Pipe

How much of a pain is replacing the factory turbo inlet pipe with a cool SAMCO one? my Mech. wants $100.00 for the job... It's not the $$$, But I don't know if I can wait to get it to him? It'll be here next tuesday with all nec. clamps... I know it's all under the hood job, but it seems like a pain in the assssssss job...My new modified KO4 is screaming for a replacement...

99% of the install was an absolute breeeeez as in under 30 minutes. The last 1% was a total bitch and took us two days of work totaling some 10+ hours.

What was it? Trying to get the lowest vacuum line onto the TIP. They were at odd angles and no room to get any tools in there or more than one finger at a time. ACK!!!!!!

My Experience exactly .... it was about a 45 minute install except for the lower vacuum hose ... that required two heads, Many skinned knuckles for the both of us and a few cuts and scraps on our hands. I still think it didn't take more than an hour on that hose ... I didn't have the luxury Tom had ... my car was in the AutoShop on Base and I would have lost my car for 3 days if we didn't get it done then, Shop was closed for 3 days after the day I did it.

Here is a link to my how to: http://www.eclubvw.com/forums/showth...ighlight=samco

I created one on the old Forum ... but it is not over here and I have not come across it there paging through the 1.8T forum, where I think it is ... I can't search for it ... Tom .... Maybe you can move it for me ... Hurricane Katrina kept me away during the transition so my How-Toos did not get over here.

Ya I installed the SAMCO pipe today alone...Dammmmmm it went so fast... But what helped is taking off the plastic cowl vent and the steel shroud at the firewall.had it all together in about an hour, untill the Dammmm SAMCO hose clamp to the copressor housing started walking. And if I got it to stay in place, the clamp would walk...finally made a bar that I could pry with to hold clamp & hose in place...
Thought I was in the clear, untill the vaccum hose wouldn't go over the SAMCO nipple fitting. spent about an hour on that and decided to piece in a short brass fitting & hose...My knuckles aren't bad but my shoulder's are Numb... I only had ramps to do the JOB. All in All It's a GRAVY JOB...Now I need to get rid of that pancake pipe going to inercooler... UPsolute called, the software is in. but can't get to him till Saturday..."Directions were apprecieted"

Great deal .... soooooooooo ... did you drive it yet. Does it feel different ... sound different? I installed mine before Chipping also.

Glad you were able to get that hose on ... if I ever do it again I will probably remove it from the other end and attach it to the nipple first and then on the other end when everything else is in.

Haven't drove it yet... I will tomorrow. How close did you get your clamp to the Compressor housing? I know mine is tight hopefully no problem...I'm chipped now, but with a KO3 file. Can't wait to get the KO4 software in this Saturday! It's spiking at 18psi. and holding 16 now...

Don't recall how close but I am pretty sure I would not have tightened it down without having it all on the lip of the turbo inlet. And if you have a K04 on there ...there may be a difference.

The one I was worried about was the hose on that nipple ... had to use the OEM clamp ... but due to the increased size of the nipple ... it was a tight squeeze getting it over the nipple and hose ... thats why we had to slide it on the hose .. keep it open while trying to get the end of the hose over the nipple. It was a real PIA, I thought Samco would have resized that nipple to match the OEM pipe by now, like we really need it bigger for more vacuum with the higher flow going through there, even without the chip.

Did you use the Samco Clamps?

Thumbs up

Only used the SAMCO clamps on the two large ends... But just got back from a 10 mile ride. Dammmmmm the Turbo really has a high pitch wind. And the deverter valve from stratmosphere really peshhhhooooo in between gears LOWDER. Great performance, hits boost QUICK... I love it.. Just checked on exhaust. Don't know if I'm going to run a 2.5 or 3" downpipe yet? and I might try it without a muffler with high flow cat and all 2.5".

h----------l no... But this KO4 has a real high pitch spoolup sound. I'd almost listen to the Turbo more than the stereo...

3 hours is not a bad time ... I had mine on a lift ... that alone reduces time by like 30 minutes.
