Question Electric Supercharger?

Hey there guys and girls, i was just wondering if you all have ever heard of this electric supercharger and get your opinion on it to see if it's worth it or not...
http://www.tempestperformance.com/

there's their link for you guys to take a look (i actually discovered it on eBay...)

think it would be any better (or worse) than a regular cold air intake set up?? (haven't got one yet, but i'm hopin' to get one for Christmas )

thanks bunches!!

That one looks better than most I have seen. But the numbers they put forth seem very far fetched .... 41HP increase with a Stanza .... that car must have had a 1.5 inch intake pipe before. I would want to see the dyno's ... the ones I saw last year were giving 1 - 2 lbs of boost they were claiming ... just putting a CAI on and directing the flow into it while driving will give that. This one is cheaper than most ... but I doubt it will move that much air ... it moves 250CFM. I don't know how to compare it to a turbo ... but here is a site with specs for lots of turbos and superchargers. http://not2fast.wryday.com/turbo/maps/

Please don't give these guys any money. If this was a legit product and worked as claimed, it would be in widespread use. Your money would be better spent on a quality cold air intake, and at the end of the day, you wouldnt feel like you got scammed.

any other takers on giving their opinion on this? i'm still kinda suspicious about it.... but on the other hand, it does seem like it could work, but it does seem a bit far fetched with a 41hp increase...

Thats funny! They are trying to sell a "squirrel cage" blower motor as a supercharger, these are used for your heater and AC and couldn't compress air if of you hooked 40 of them together at once!
If you look at the first pic in their gallery you will see the "supercharger" connected BACKWARDS!!.
They connected the "supercharger" intake to the engine intake...so it would be removing air from the engine!!! The "business" end of the blower is the end with the flange(flat mounting end of it) thats where the air would come out...not from the round sides.

If you look at the other pics, it looks like it is just shoved in there and not really mounted. You would have to be really nieve to buy something like this, a good looking web site doesn't equal an honest product.

These things are a classic eBay scam. Avoid them.

I like the idea of an electric supercharger, but....

I don't know how much HP a Neusopeed supercharger uses to produce 5 or 6 psi? 2hp maybe 4hp? even if its only 2hp. 2hp equals about 1500 watts at 12vdc that would draw 125 amps (volts x amps = watts) the math just doesn't work out.

If you had a large enough electic motor, dual alternators, and a couple of extra batterys it might just work.

At least this is actually a piece of equipment and isn't one of those "tornado" things where you stick a chunk of metal in your intake to create a "cyclone" of air.

I'd be worried about any "chip" though.

Jian ... thanks for being the physics wizard on this ... I was gonna do this but didn't know the formulas.

The Chip they give you just make you burn more gas. I would buy one of these for testing with their return policy if they shipped it to me from a 10 block radius of my home.

All of the scams that have been out there usually have a dead givaway. They always say the same thing .... Increased HP/Performance and Increased MPG. There is no way that this can happen ... in order to get more HP out of an engine you have to give it more fuel ... period. The formula is here in the text about the highest HP production car in the world ... which is a VW at heart: http://auto.howstuffworks.com/bugatti.htm

"1,000 horsepower is equivalent to roughly 2.6 billion joules per hour. A gallon (3.8 liters) of gasoline contains 132 million joules, so a 1,000-hp engine has to be able to burn just over 20 gallons of gasoline per hour.
However, car engines are only about one-quarter efficient -- three quarters of the gasoline's energy escapes as heat rather than as power to the wheels. So the engine actually has to be able to burn at least 80 gallons per hour, or 1.33 gallons (5 liters) per minute."

the "chip" is probably a resistor to replace the IAT (intake air temperature) sensor this causes the ecu to think its in a start up mode and advances the timing and add more fuel. If you search the web you can find a lot of articles on the subject.

thanks for the input, i thought it was sounding to good to be true (personally i thought it looked like a hair drier stuck in-line with the intake system... )

case closed in my book this thing is a joke

I totally agree that first pic appears to be hooked up in the wrong direction. That would guarantee a 27 hp reduction.

those electric superchargers do make your car faster...

they take money out of your wallet, thereby making your wallet lighter, which in turn makes you lighter, and since you drive the car, YOU are lighter. If you are lighter, then the car is lighter and therefore less weight to haul around, which makes your car faster

Snake oil. Don't buy it. If you're looking for a real performance part, save up the $ and buy an exhaust or an intake or some pulleys, etc.

But that theory is not sound in this high tech era we are living in with Electric Cars and Electric SuperChargers ... my Debit card weighs the same.
