Have you recently installed a bra onto your Beetle?...

if the little latch pops out and you can open from pulling that your hood is working perfectly fine

I just realized you said you have to work to get it to open

that might be a problem so I would wait for someone with more experience on this stuff

actually you are both wrong. tom (fowvay) fixed mine when i had the same symptoms. all he did was adjusted my hood outward with the rubber prongs under the hood.

Yes, this sounds more like a hood or hood latch adjustment issue, you should not have to work that hard to open your hood and you don't want to be constantly forcing it because this could lead to a cable or something breaking, you'd really be hatin' life then.

On the hood you will see two rubber stoppers. They rotate so that you can set more preload. This allows the hood to POP when you unlatch it.

Over time they compress and what was once a POP is now a FLOP. Just give em a turn or two and see how it works.

Hmmmm, VW must have mistakenly equipped my car with their special super ball grommets because my car is seven years old with the original unadjusted grommets, both my hood and my hatch still "Pop" when released and I experience zero difficulty opening them.

I guess anything is possible...

yeah i would have to pull mine eight or nine times or pull it til the handle would stay up and walk around and wiggle the hood to get it to pop. after fowvay adjusted those no more problems. i also had problems with my hatch popper wanting to pop and then close again. i always had to hit it twice. fowvay and don fixed it the same way.

Thanks to the OP and this thread. My hood now opens properly, and not a minute too soon... It's pretty embarrasing to go to a gas station and "need help" opening my hood just to put in emergency washer fluid in the snow up here in NH right now!!!
THANKS!
