Question I'm stalling and don't know why

My 98 Beetle is stalling whenever it wants to. Usually when I come to a stop or sometimes just idling. It will also start to bog down for a few seconds when I'm driving. Temp or weather don't matter. No engine light and no codes when diagnosed. I'm confused. The only thing I did before this starting happening was switch to synthetic oil. Possible?

Have the fuel pressure checked, could also be alternator getting weak, I have this problem on one of my truck tanks, FP is about 20PSI low at idle, Okay at running speed.

When's the last time you changed your fuel filter? That's probably the first thing I'd try, if it's been awhile.

Very cheap and quick fix.

Good Catch pdoel .... I always prefer answering those diag questions when they let us know the whole picture .... like how many miles are on the car. Fuel filter should be changed every 40000 miles. Change mine at 40K ... fuel was a little dirty coming out of the inlet. Change the one on my truck a few months ago ... I got her at 106K, now has 108K, fuel was black coming out the inlet.

I'm having this same problem, it's happened a few times. alternator or fuel pump? it's happened for me each time when the headlights were on and when I had recently put up the window or turned on the A/C. that's why I thought it might be the alternator. scary when it happens though!
