Default Another messed up gas gauge

Maybe it's the ages of the cars, or the time of year, or the fact that it's a moon cycle . . .

I've never had any problems with my gas gauge before so I'm baffled.

I filled up 4 days ago and the gauge sat on the full line, like always. I figure, at most, I should be around the 3/4 tank line right now. NOPE.

According to my gas gauge, I have 1 1/4 tanks full of gas !!!! I've tried unscrewing the gas cap, with no difference. I just checked - when the car is off, the gauge registers at the 'almost-out-gotta-find-a-station orange area' instead of 0.

At this point I don't know if the gauge even works. My question is this: Does anyone know what trips the low fuel warning light or the panel? Is it the gas gauge itself, or is there a float or something in the gas tank?

Anyone? Anyone?

Guess a trip to the stealership is in the near future. . .

Next time you fill it up (ALL the way), it'll reset itself. Chill.

To answer your question, the "float" or "sender" is on the fuel pump housing, in the tank. This communicates to the guage the level.

I tend to get 150 miles before the first 1/4 of tank is gone. Then 150 mi from the last 3/4 of a tank.

You just said 4 days ago, I dunno, maybe you didn't drive for a day in there. How many miles are on that tank of gas while it's still showing Full?

Well, since I put in the supercharger, my mileage is bad, bad, bad, but . . . I usually get about 50 miles before it 'pluges' to 3/4.

As a side note - the gauge seemed to be registering last night going home - and this morning when before I started the car I noticed that the gauge was at 0 the way it should be.

I swear - this has been one crazy moon cycle - I can always tell by the incoming calls at the office when one is close, but this one has been WACKY!!!!!!!!!!!
Guess I'll have to wait to see what happens - if I run out when I'm just to the orange area, then I'll know . . .
