Default Airbag light on..

I was searching on here found a couple things about the airbag light but still not sure what to do. I really don't feel like replacing sensors on a a safety equipment that is to work. This to me is a manufacturing problem if it is the wiring harnesses, or wired into the seat belts. I guess if I were to get into a accident I'll let the lawyer worry about why my airbags didn't go off.

The airbag light can be caused by many things. In my case, mine was caused by the passenger seat airbag wiring harness going bad. Being that it is a liability on VWOA's part, they replaced all parts and covered the cost of the parts and labor. Of course, I had to call VWOA's customer service, but it was under the instruction of my dealership.

In any case, get it repaired ASAP. If any part of the airbag system is damaged then there is no guarantee that the airbags will go off in the event of an accident.

So I should take my car to VW & they'll fix it free? I think mine is the seat belt sensor. It doesn't light up that I don't have my seat belt buckled. How about yours?

You'll have to ask your VW dealership if the repair is free but FWIW my car ('04) had a recall for the passenger seat harness (ie PODS).

There are several websites that list recalls by make/model. Below is one example. Note that it's for 2004.

http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/pr...ls/results.cfm

EDIT: This site does not provide a comprehensive list of recalls for my model year - I see no mention of the EGR recall.

Thanks for the link. It didn't say anything for my 2001 either. But I'll still go see what they'll do.
