Making sure that the FMIC fits properly goes without saying I hope but beyond that, it is very important to get one that has a well designed core with LOW pressure drop, however, just because it fits doesn't mean that it is designed well.

The ABD Racing FMIC is a very good part with efficient cooling properties and a low pressure drop.

I dont like the abd one, its a small core and the piping is very long. imho the greddy kit is better.

I agree that the lower pipe could have, should have been designed to route differently, I have considered replacing that one pipe with a custom piece.

The core is smaller than some but the installation is much less chaotic than many other kits as well, also, the size of the core isn't necessarily indicative of it's cooling efficiency, this is an area that is dependant on the overall internal/external core design, ultimatel it really comes down to this, does the IC effectively cool the air with minimal pressure drop (I believe about 0.5psi), the ABD FMIC does just that.

I also think that the Greddy systems are nice, Greddy was my other consideration, however, at the time I could not get straight answers to any of the technical questions I was asking, could not get any real details on their product, so I passed.

I had both products in my hands. Compared to the greddy the abd is of poorer quality. I have installed the greddy so if you still have any questions ask me A buddy of mine went with the abd and we compared intake temps with our k04 upgrades. The greddy preforms better although I have an open cone filter! VAG-com logs to proove it.
He is now converting to the tt intake manifold to have a shorter route and eliminate the 180 degree bend at the ic output side.

I do have to say that the hardware and clamps supplied with the ABD FMIC (which I did not use) are junk, I also had to make a minor modification on the lower crossover pipe to make it fit true but the rest of the kit quality is very good.

I have had an $1800.00 exhaust system that came with cheap accessories/hardware, this seems to be a common practice for some reason which is why I often modify my upgrades.

The intake air temperatures with my car typically logs in 21 to 28 degree Celsius range during very spirited driving, this is a serious temperature reduction from the stock intercooler.

There is no question in my mind that the there are other really nice FMIC's out there, a variety of quality upgrades is always nice.
