This whole thread is about the OEM housings by the way.. There are no OEM options for HID's in the stock H1 headlights.

Do you guys think I can modify the headlight buckets while installed on the car or do I have to pull the front clip off?

Can't you just pull them out like changing bulbs?

I'm pretty sure the buckets don't come out unless the bumper is off. But I found the piece FastAndFurious cut off on the bucket so I'm going to get a 90* head adapter for my Dremel today (wanted one anyway) and cut the buckets while on the car.

I was just afraid the part that needed to be cut off was up in the back somewhere weird but no it's totally accessible.

Are you sure about that? I don't know about the factory HID ones, but i just changed to HID bulbs and had to take the stock buckets out. I did NOT have to take the bumper off.....

Default The headlight buckets come out

The headlight buckets come out without taking the front clip off... they are held on by like 3-4 screws, be careful taking it out, you might have to compress it a bit to get it out but it should come out, you will figure it out once you get it loose in there.

Thr front clip only has to come off if you want a clean/oem install to hide the ballasts

This is about the OEM HID headlight housings and NOT just a drop-in HID kit. You should read the thread...

Anyway Ok cool I will get those buckets out and start cutting.

Guys,

I read through here every so often. The HID headlight assemblies are the same as the halogen headlight assemblies. You release them by pressing in the cross-hatched 'button' and then moving the lever up. I'm talking about the 2005 and earlier headlights. I upgraded to the HIDs and they come out the same way as the halogens.

If you are actually talking about removing the headlight bucket, yes they have several bolts holding them in place. You should be able to maneuver them around to get them out the headlight opening in the fender. Not sure why you want to remove the headlight buckets?

Eric

Ok, yes the headlight buckets do come out the front and they're very easy to modify with a good pair of tin snips.

Anyway thanks to a buddy of mine (who kicks ass at wiring) we got the headlights to fire tonight. The highbeams and lowbeams work and the leveling works. So yeah OEM bixenons are possible with a cheapie HID kit and a $30 wiring harness from TheRetrofit Source.

I gave up on the H4 harness and got a buddy of mine to build the DIY harness from the diagram that I believe r0nd3L made except we ignored the part about using the OEM ballasts. I'm just using my old drop-in HID kit and it all works great.

With that said though, I'm going to be keeping an eye out for another pair of BiXenons and do the swap properly in the future. It works great and everything but there's a lot of wire loom which even though we managed to hide most of it isn't really something I want if I shave / clean the engine bay in the future.

Oh and for anyone who ever might run into this, the BiXenons share a lot of parts with the normal headlights so if you break a plastic bracket or something the parts swap over. We cracked a slider bracket during the swap and I was pretty relieved when a bracket from my box of headlight parts worked.

So these work fine. A pair of $50 HID ballasts are happily powering these with a custom relay harness. I'm truly lucky to have a friend who is incredible at wiring cars who made an awesome harness that worked just great. Running blue/white LED's in the city lights as DRL's too. Just cut the TFL wire at the switch and ran a wire up front to the city lights.

We live out in the country , there are no street lights , its all country roads speed limit 55 , nothing is more aggravating than to have someone coming at you with super bright lights so bright you cant see the road , its also aganst the law to blind on comming traffic.

How did you get the ecode lights to fit in the bumper without a gap?

I picked up a set of ecode hid's and they leave 1/4" gap above the headlight. I ended up swapping the lenses from my old halogen dot lights, then they fit prefectly.
