Default Tech. Question, yet again.

Working on a friends NB.

She sometimes has to crank it twice in the mornings, especially when its cold and makes a grinding sound. When it's warm, it stops and starts the way it should.

However,

I measured 12.47 volts at the battery.
The Alternator is pushing out 96 amps.
The load test is good.
Its sitting at 14.74 volts while running.
parasitic drain at 41 mA. (aftermarket radio memory)
However, spec on the starter is 140 amps.
the starter current draw test is pushing 161 amps.

I have not measured voltage drop or resistance on the ground, because I do not believe that is the problem.

I am curious if the you would consider the 161 amps, excessive enough to junk it and get a new one. The car chargers fine, cant be the charging harness. Measuring full voltage at the ignition switch as well.

Im pretty sure the diagnosis is correct. Anybody want to confirm? Throw in their two cents?

What do you mean by 'has to crank it twice?'

I bet on the starter being on the bubble, and needing replacement, so I'm with you on that.

I'm also guessing by "cranking it twice" you mean "two times before it starts." But that's a sign of a dying starter, too, along with the increased draw...

Thats what I thought. After a few times of trying to turn over. I'll stop and restart, so it doesnt flood it.
