Hello!
I have a 2006 convertible Beetle, and just recently my check engine light went on. I went to "Schucks" to get the the code, and this is what they told me: "P0101 Mass or Volume Air Flow Circuit Range/Performance". I have no idea what that means!! Does anyone know what it means and what needs to be done to have the problem fixed?? Please if you could email me at ruberducke@earthlink.net, thanks!! |

It sounds like it could be a MAF going bad (meters the intake air), but you may try clearing the code and seeing if it comes back. A new MAF sensor is a pretty straight forward replacement. MAF's don't often go bad unless you drive in an area with LOTS of dust, or over oil a replacement filter, but being an electrical component, they can certainly just go bad as well.
Which motor do you have?

Only reason why I say to try cleaning is from personal experience. I used an oil filter (I know, bad) and it dirty it, used the MAF cleaner and the code never returned. (It had been cleared before cleaning and it came back) but once I cleaned it, it hasn't come back and that was more than a half a year ago. Next time it comes up though I will get it replaces because you can only clean something some many times and didn't mean that you should clean the MAF all the time, just if it comes back from clearing it, it can't hurt if you need to replace it anyways, thats all.
