Default Window roll up / down flash

I have a 2007 NBC and I checked out the window roll up / down flash unit on ECS part #7204 to see if I could use it on my NBC.

I called ECS and spoke to a tech he said the flash unit they sell won't work on my NBC. He told me I would have to find someone that knows codes and has the unit to change them and I could have the Roll up / down feature on my Beetle.

Anyone done this?

They also said it wouldn't work on my '06, but to try it and return it if it didn't. Guess what... it worked great from day one, and it's still dropping VW-knowledgeable jaws when I do the "shields up" lock.

The way I saw it... if it didn't work, it's only $60 even if they wouldn't let me return it for whatever reason. $60 is not even a rounding error in my life. But it was nice of them to offer... See if they'll do the same for you, or explain why they think it wouldn't work, since there was no significant change in NBCs from '03 to... now.

I think as long as you have power windows and your windows go up and or down with the key, the KVW100 should work just fine

I have no problem eating the $60, I am just concerned that if it doesn't work will it screw anything else up?

The coding is pretty specific so I wouldn't imagine it would. The other possibility is to see if it can be done with a vag-com and locate an owner in your area or close by. I believe it was possible to make the coding change on other models but not the earlier beetles. Don't know about '06 on.

I got back on the ECS web site and took a look at the installation directions and they state it will work on a new beetle up to 2007. So I bought one and will give it a try. I am surprised that the info page for the unit does not include 2007 like the instructions?

Does it make any difference if the car is a convertable? I hope not.I will let you know what happens

Thanks everyone for the comments

Rick

Never a problem after 4 years here Rick. It's a nice feature to have especially when you left your windows up on a hot afternoon. Nice to be able to lock the doors and leave the windows cracked as well!

These access the CECM module coding and change a few variables around to allow the keyfob to control the windows. Unfortunately there is some confusion on a few of the models (ex: 2007+ New Beetle), so without actually trying it, often times we are not able to confirm 100%.

I'm glad to hear a few of you in this thread have gotten them to work, our apologies for any confusion, but it certainly is a nice feature! The cars that switched over to a CAN-BUS system (Mk5, B6 Passat, etc...) will not work with these modules.

The directions that come with the unit indicate that it will work with a 2007 new beetle

I would actually love to get this done myself. I think it's cool and nice to have if it would rain out and you forget to roll the windows up...which I have done a couple times, not too often though.

Hmmm, I would find this super useful too.

Whenever I park with the top down I raise all the windows, but end up forgetting to do so until I'm halfway out the car ...get back in / key in the ign / flip switch

With this I walk away like a rockstar and do it remotely...

After turning this feature on in my Audi (I could it with the vag-com), I had to do it on the Beetle. The ECS module worked great! Never had a problem!

This mod is absolutely the most useful, no-brainer-to-install, cheapest, most fun and most bang-for-the-buck addition to our NBs, ever. It just baffles me why everyone doesn't just order one of these right now. I mean, seriously. It's sixty bucks. That's a meal and drinks on a cheap date night at Red Lobster.

If there's anything more baffling, is why VW didn't include it in the price of the car (what could it possibly be at the wholesale level to them? $10? $15? $25?) as a standard feature.

To review:

On 'verts: Unlock driver's door (window drops ½", clearing the top without rubbing on it, as when you manually open the door and pull), or open both doors (passenger window also drops ½")... Or you can choose to open all windows before you reach the car: Close all windows simultaneously on lock, or lock with windows still down if you choose.

On sedans: Open both windows from a distance, and the sunroof if you choose as well: On lock, windows and sunroof close automatically.

Now, go get you one. Seriously. You can thank me later.

My '04 NBC does all that, except the windows don't drop the 1/2" until I open the door...
You're right, though. It was $59 well spent. It's worth that just for the fun of showing people how it works!

Is the flash module one time use....or could you get multiple uses out of one module?

The instructions say that it can be used only once to install the program, and once to un-install it. I've always been curious if it would work more than once...
