Thumbs down If you are from TULSA, Please read this!

Those jacka**'s! So I took my car there to have a Diagnostic done, they charged me 50$.. My turbo wasnt running right, I have an 01 NB 1.8T GLS... well, after about 4 hours, I find out I need a new oil dipstick and my turbo is shot. Along with needing a 100,000 mile service (very warranted) when it was done and over with they wrote me a $4,000 estimate paper with a few other basic things that need maintained and said the work needed to be done ASAP well, that about knocked me over. So the past few days, I have been looking for cheaper labor, after market turbos, and cheaper but genuine parts. Then a friend told me about this mechanic who does nothing but VW and Audi's so i looked him up. I went by there and talked to him. He popped my hood, lifted my top cover off (wasnt even screwed in) and told me my 1st problem was that ALL my vacuum lines on the top of my motor were old as dirt and was never replaced. He went back, got a roll of line, some clippers and rachets, and went to work, teaching me along the way. after he was done, he took my Victoria for a spin and said she was running great! But needs a 100,000 mile service and needed it yesterday LOL and that I need a BIG vacuum line replaced for 20 bucks. And a synthetic oil change and need to run NOTHING but 91 Octane. VW Of Tulsa is a sorry excuse for VW... So... I got to thinking, i didnt get to talk to a mechanic which i understand, they do lots of a cars a day and dont want to ramble with dumb customers, but none the less. When the new mech went to work, my top cover not even screwed on, so I am betting, VW didnt even touch it so how would they know? Also, they said my after market radio was not wired properly and they couldnt do a full diagnostic cuz the scanner, wouldnt scan cuz of the radio... new mech said radio is fine and he has the same scanner as the dealership shop, VW called and I did a survey, the GM was so disappointed with his crew and my responses that he is RE-evaluating my car AND refunding my 50$ So, new mechanic will become my NB's Best FRIEND!

*** if this post is in the wrong place, please let me know***

I am good now, I just wanted to get that out and I am very disappointing with VW of Tulsa... Thanks everyone for letting me rant.

Glad to hear you found a better mechanic. We don't call VW dealership mechanics "Stealerships" for nothing.

Glad that you posted your rant/escapades with us. In the future, if you're having some issues, rather than going with your "new" mechanic (who seems awesome BTW) post here as well. Fortunately you got your 50 bucks back and had the sense to go elsewhere- many aren't as fortunate. Many here can advise you and even save you some cash- by the sounds of your mechanic, you'll get some great advice as well as save some money; still it wouldn't hurt to get some advice from of your fellow orgers

If at all possible, i'd post your comments in bold pink- the pink and white makes it hard for my older eyes to read

Wow, glad your beetle is happy again.

Stealerships are a waste of money, in EVERY which way possible.

I lol'd when you stated your engine cover was just sitting on your engine, not screwed down. Last time I EVER went to a VW dealership for an airbag replacement, my engine cover was loose too.

I found my screw caps and a wrench between my wipers. Fail sauce.

We bought Lily from the Tulsa "stealership" and unfortunately I have tales to tell as well. I was happy to hear Der German helped Victoria feel better. He has been in business at that location for at least 20 years that I know of. I've always heard good things about his work. I also know of a great shop in Conway, Arkansas.

Thanks for the update on Victoria. Looking forward to a fall gtg when we can.

Yikes, $4,000! They sound just like the dealership here in Little Rock. I asked how much they charged for for a 70,000 miles service (air filter, belts, coolant, WP, etc...) and they told me $1,700. They also told me you couldn't put a water pump with a metal impeller in a VW. I been lucky and found a great mechanic about two from where I live (the one John mentioned ) and couldn't be happier. I only paid $300 there for the 70,000 miles service and I provided the parts. It sounds like you found a great mechanic. It's good to see someone else from Tulsa, we have a fantastic group of Orgers from that area and all over OK.

Thats what you get when you get greese monkeys working under a A.S.E. mechanics license. What happens is a dealership will hire 1 maybe 2 A.S.E. guys, then hires 8 meatheads, the meatheads are the ones working on your car. The meatheads get paid $10.00 an hour vs. the $40.00+ the A.S.E. mechanic does.

Then you have someone like me, Dont get me wrong, but I make money. We recently have hired a new master mechanic, so I got alot more time on my hands. I think I might start flirting with the parts gal.

x2. Not that I don't like your help NewBeetleMechanic, I think what you are doing on here is great, but it seems you have a lot of time on your hands for posting on here.

Glad to see you found an awesome mechanic that helped you out. I too had a hard time reading your post. As Al said, post on here and there are plenty of people and diy's to help you do pretty much everything you need to on your NB!

I perfectly understand why everyone calls them stealerships. I mean I have worked for VW for quite some time. I have had to talk to the BOSS many a time, and get a service manager fired, because he was not qualified to serve 10 cent lemonade. I mean you DO NOT talk to people like they are stupid. I work on cars, if you asked me to build something, I would be lost, not only lost, but if i tried to build it myself, not only would I hammer a nail into my hand, but the place would probably burn down. I figure it like this if I need something built, I go to someone who knows what they are doing, and would listen to everything they said.

If you walked into our dealership as a off the street customer, I would treat you exactly like a person with a broken car, not a dollar sign. Give you your options and let you decide what you want to have done. Many of our customers will ask to talk to me because they know their car will be fixed correctly, in a timely manner and (most of the time) under budget. But thats what comes with time.

The things I am doing here are for all of you, that dont have access to VW's vast database. I dont do it for fame or a "atta boy". I do it because it is so hard to find any real answers on Beetle repair on the net.

I typed in transmission level check new (Beetle). Guess how many pages of drool I had to go thru before I gave up?

The reason I have had alot of time lately is, I think they are getting ready to offer me a service manager position again. But thats not me, I love greese, and the satfaction of getting a major diagnosis and repair, then never seeing the car again, until the owner refuses any of our other "mechanics" even for an oil change. It gives me a good feeling that people "trust" a stealership mechanic.

You seem to be the exception to all VW dealership service departments. I hope you get that Service Manager position as that would make your dealership a "dealership" and not the other. I understand why you would not want to take that position, but you could always do "side jobs" for your best customers and still get your hands dirty. This is the best place to find answers on the NB and I'm sure that is why you ended up here. Like I said, I am glad you are here helping fellow org members with their issues with their beloved NBs. Thank you.

Red face If you are from tulsa, please read

I wanted to say thank you to all that replied, and now, me and my husband know better than to ever go back to that place. As for NewBeetleMechanic, Im sorry, if you felt I was bashing your profession of work, but I was not, but you said it correctly when they saw me as a girl who didnt know what was up and a total dollar sign. But I do hope you get to continue to work in grease like I am sure you are great at. And a big thanks to everyone for not bashing me for being so upset, I was sure that I was going to ruffle a few feathers but was glad to see that the feathers are being ruffled with me. Thanks!

Agreeing with Joel
nBMechanic, you are definitely the exception to the rule, hence you presence and contributions here on the org. You're old-school man, with your philosophies on customer service and just plain ol treating people right. You're good people and we're glad you're here; an asset to the new beetle community for sure

I guess N.B.Mechanic as well as the rest of us know that you were speaking in generalities- ya know the whole microcosm thing- there's good ones and bad ones; nBMechanic seems to be one of the good uns

Yeah, we all look out for one another here, hence this being a New Beetle community. When one orger's feathers get ruffled, usually the rest of ours do; seeing that we, to one degree or another go through the same beetle escapades as you do, that's how it goes.

Some hate and bash their bugs, but the majority of us love our bugs, quirks and all; we're just doing our part to help.

Oh and thanks so much for readjusting the text- ya see the bold does work and you get to keep your pink too. My eyes thank you
