Tailwaggers are long gone.
Suggestion: Post in the classifieds that you want to trade your low speed motor for a high speed one. People are always looking to buy the lower speed unit.

If you have the lower speed activation motor I can see the logic in swapping. Yes it's cool for people to see it go up and down in the city but I seriously doubt it makes any significant aerodynamic difference at that speed. I read somewhere that VW did it just to showcase the spoiler because people were complaining that they never drove fast enought to activate it. Here in Toronto anyways it's been almost -30 Celcius the last few days and trust me if you wash your car the wing is gonna get stuck. There is a sensor that prevents it from activating if there is too much resistance but this happening all winter can't be good for the mechanisms. I wouldn't worry about it too much in the spring/summer/fall but in the winter you could just disable it totally (I am seasonally). My TS has about 70,000km on it right now and the spoiler is loud when it retracts but seems to be working without any issues. However: Since this winter the car has always been garaged and never seen snow or salt (or that brine spray crap they use around here). My GLX's spoiler motor was very quiet compared to the TS so I do believe wear is a factor.
