Default Euro Beetle Sport Cluster?

From what I understand: VW in Europe did not sell the Turbo S but did market the Beetle Sport.

http://www.sebeetles.com/2002_n_beetle_sport.htm

I'm looking to purchase a Euro gauge cluster from whatever model came with white illumination like the TS. The reason is that I want to have the KM's in large text and MPH underneath like the Canadian clusters (I have a heavy foot) but want to keep the interior stock looking.

I know there are some European .org Members such as Marc/Nashman28 around these parts so let me know if you have any ideas/suggestions or even better part numbers

Cheers,

-DT

I have the euro speedo face in mine. I just peeled the face off the euro cluster and put it on my original cluster. It's only held on with low tack glue if I'm remembering right. It has only km/h on it, no miles.

I'm just guessing, but I have doubts the Euro heads will show MPH at all (why would they, or if they did, why in the name of keeping costs down would they not simply use the Canadian?). Does the Canadian face plate not meet your requirements? I was having trouble understanding the difference between the Canadian and what you want. Why do you think a Euro face would be any different in white than what SMG has pictured in black?

You're German and can do the conversion in your head. He needs a face plate that shows both km/h and mph. AND in white. Something to do with a heavy foot.

LOL! Well Jordan is closer to Germany than me but I don't know if that makes him German There is some reasoning behind his avatar but it's all in jest.

I will post some pics tomorrow.

I do drive to the US occasionally so having MPH as a secondary reading would be helpful

Yea I agree, all the Euro clusters would not have MPH at all

I will post some pics tomorrow. The TS cluster font is way diff than the regular 1.8t's (nicer IMO)

Actually Jordan is on the other side of the pond. I have friends from there.

His avatar is all in jest? Duh...
So was my German remark, but I figured he might be.
I've been trying to get him to see a Neurologist! LMFAO

But, seriously, I don't understand why you think any Euro face would have mph? Is there not a Canadian face that has what you want? There is a guy from Dubai that just posted on here in the last few days that is big in mods, he would probably know what is available over there. I can probably find his post if you need his id to send him a p/m.

The Canadian cluster has the big km/h and the small mph, yep.

Ok thanks SMG. I didn't think it was going to be as easy as swapping the face. I assumed that I would have to purchase a brand new cluster. Well that still may be true if I can't find a donor cluster...

As far as the backlighting goes that is another point I assumed incorrectly on: I thought the illumination was tied into the gauge face as well but obviously it's not.

That saves me from having to get a brand new cluster programmed. I take it dissasembling the cluster is relatively straightforwards?

Getting the needles back exactly in the right place is the toughest part.

It actually isn't. I made the mistake of turning the motors while disassembling the cluster but they only turn back so far so gently turn them all the way back to the left. It's hard to tell when they stop moving because the metal pins are completely smooth.

Not a hard job at all though, took me under an hour from the time I started taking it out of the car to the time I was done and took the car to get coffee.

OK I took a pic...

Major diff besides the backlighting and SMG's face is just the top end. Mine goes up to 160/260. I won't be needing anything above 150KM/H around here as the law enforcement still subscribes to our "Stunt Driving" Law aka Street Racing and will impound your car among other things if you get caught going that fast. That is another story however that quite possibly has it's own post around here somewhere if not on the 'Tex.

If I do ever make it to the track the upper range should come in handy

Euro cluster wins IMO but the Turbo S face is pretty nice too.
