you need to lower your perches if they are adjustable.

if you canot lower the perches, you need to compress the spring some to install the shock to the rear axle beam.

Not the answer I was hoping for I don't understand how like 1 inch could have made this much of a difference. What if I had more weight in the trunk; when the whole thing would start getting raised up it would kind of bounce, like if I had a fat friend to sit on the rear bumper it might work :P

It doesn't have anythin to do with how I have the car on 4 jack stands? Just because Ive never heard of needing a spring compressor for the rears so I'm just wondering if something else is at play : /

are your rear jack stands sitting on the rear axle beam? are the new springs thicker, or longer than regular ones (like Jetta wagon springs)

what specific pieces are you trying to install? photos might help.

I have 4 jack stands, one at each corner's jacking point.

The springs are shorter than stock, I'm pretty sure, they are Rokkors. They might be thicker, but we did get them installed no problem the first time around.

The only differences between that time and this time is:

That time:
front wheels were on the ground
no perches installed, so the springs were about an inch or so lower

This time:
entire car on jack stands
perches in

I was just thinking earlier, I did put the helpers/perches in (as in, I screwed them to the control arm) and then put the springs on top.

When I tried to jack one side up without the other side's spring in, i could get it high enough to put in the bolt, but there wasn't room on the other side to get the spring in.

Maybe if I put the spring, helper and perch in all as one unit I would have room to do so when the other side has been jacked up and the bolt inserted again.
