Bong..... bong.... bong.... bong.... bong.... SHUT UP!!!
Is there any way I can turn off the bong bong bong noises when I open the door on my Beetle? Drives me crackers!

Big Ben?
That's just on your side of the pond. Over here it's a completely less annoying sound. Sure it's not Big Ben your hearing?

The car in question was imported from America - I assume the bong is the same as your bong?
My UK car doesn't bong at all. He's all quiet - which is probably why the noise annoys me as we don't have bonging noises in the UK on cars in general.

If I could figure out how one of the P.O.'s of our Beetle disabled the chime, I'd tell ya. Our Bug is completely silent no matter what you do. No chime, bong, gong, Chich or Chong whatsoever.

Mine was silent for about 6 months - I think a sensor or micro switch had failed in the door as it also auto locked me in if I didn't put the key into the ignition quickly enough. I don't think he noticed that I'd opened the door and got in.
But he's had 2.5yrs off from being used and seems to have fixed himself... and the bongs are back!
