Question Catalytic converter?

I have a 99 beetle with the 2.0 and was curious if it would goof with the ecu and kick up check engine codes if I were to remove the Catalytic converter?

Yes, with little performance gain, if any. I went that route and finally got tired of the check engine light. I tried several "cheaters" on the aft O2 sensor and couldn't get it to stay off.

If you just need to replace yours cause it's bad, you can do like I did. I picked up a Magnaflow and had it welded in for MUCH cheaper than an OEM one. Since I had a 3" exhaust, I used this: Magnaflow 94139 Single Sensor Cat 3" In/Out

They come in any size inlet/exhaust port.
