Unhappy Fuel tank door and trunk will not open

First the fuel tank wouldn't open, then all of a sudden the trunk door wont open either. Hit the button and it doesnt make a noise. If I use my key to pop the trunk the blinkers flash but it still doesnt make a noise. What could possibly be causing this? Could they be related to eachother? And if you know what it may be that needs to be replaced please also include any part numbers.

Man, this car is just breaking my heart left and right

On the key fob you have to hold the middle button down for 3 seconds for the trunk to open. Is the trunk release button the one that does not work or just the one on the fob? I could be wrong but I think the tank lid is 100% mechanical.

Neither one works, the button on the key or the button on the door. The button on the key will make the lights flash but that's it. Neither button makes the noise it usually does when the trunk unlocks.

Is the trunk lid shut all the way? I had my truck lid not shut completly and the button wouldn't work until the lid was shut properly...

The filler lid switch doesn't have a cable attached to it, so it must be electrical. Since the trunk and filler lid switches are right next to eachother, maybe they share some wiring. That's where I'd look... Good luck, and let us know what you find out!

There is a cable for the tank lid in the trunk. Not sure how it all comes together, but there is a cable in the mix. Which tends to fail. Mine has. The button makes noise, but the lid won't release. I have to open it using the cable that you can get to in the trunk.

True, very true. I'll look it up and see if I can get the diagram so you can trace it. Did you check your fuses? Just guessing that there should be something there.

I've checked all the big fuses but not the little ones yet, and all the big ones are fine. I wasn't sure if the little ones would have anything to do with it. Ya the lid is shut all the way. This sucks so much. It doesn't make the noise on the fuel tank door or the trunk when I hit the buttons. How hard is it to fix the wiring if thats it? Or would I be better off going to the mechanic? Darn I was just hoping it had something to with the buttons on the door.

You may find your answer below...

Trunk release issue...

If I were trouble shooting I would disconnect the gas flap switch, then I would try using the trunk switch...
If still nothing and no sound, I would replace the swiches...
If still nothing after that, start tracing wires...
But, that's just me....Give this post a few mins and I'm sure someone will of course have a better idea.

There is also a relay for the trunk release motor/actuator, if you know how to do it check that before replacing switches. There is no fuse that I can find for that.
It is located under the dashboard right below the steering wheel column. Download the PDF below with the location and relay #
Hope that helps
