Question water temp gauge

ok i just got my gfs beetle back up and running and i installed a water temp gauge and i wired all the wires according to the instructions and i grounded the adapter(t fitting) but when i turn the car on the temp gauge flips out to 250 and stays there, i unplugged the ground and the gauge drops all the way down but it doesn't move when the car warms up, i am at a loss thank you in advance

You've got the wiring screwed up. Sounds like you're sending straight-12v to the gauge the way you now have it wired. Your sensor needs to provide the gauge with calibrated voltage, according to the water temperature, which registers on the gauge as needed... the more voltage, the higher the reading.

Either that, or the sensor is messed up (unlikely on a new installation)... good luck...

ive seen that one before on the audi tts and always wondered if it would work on a beetle, that gauge is awesome and has a lot more different options, care to share anymore pics of what it can do ?
