Question $$400?! I think not.

So, my window feel off the track I believe and if i take it to the dealership to get fixed it could be up to $400 or more. I really don't want to pay to have it fixed if there is anyway i can fix it myself.

When I bought my car, i noticed that there was a winding sound like when i would roll the passengerside window;; when it got cold in December, my mom decided to roll it down so that she could throw out her gum and she decided to push it down bc she thought it was frozen and well, it completely fell. I had someone pull it back up but, nothing has kept it up completely. So, im just curious if there is anyway I could fix it myself without paying $400 to fix.

If anyone could please explain to me how to fix this it would be great. Break it down though because otherwise I totally won't know what im doing. My husband is getting ready to leave for training for deployment so he will be unable to fix or even help me. So, Im leaning on fellow beetle owners to help me out.

You need a window regulator repair kit, the kit costs about $50 per side from the dealer. A little tricky to replace, but possible.

There is a write-up on here somewhere. Give the search function a try or use Google. If I had more time I'd look it up for you now.

Not too bad to do, it takes about 45 min or so each side. got a kick out of your tag line. I am sorry about the depravity, but thank you

Maybe there's some local Beetlers in your area who could assist? Good luck to you with this project!

Thank you to your husband for his sacrifice, and yours too. Marine grand-daughter here.

Don't understand the correlation between the regulator and motor. The motor has NOTHING to do with the regulator, they are separate items, and you're issue doesn't sound like a motor, but rather the regulator. I would buy a returnable rebuild kit as you may discover something is broken and you can not rebuild the regulator and it will have to be replaced. You may also find something has come loose and the regulator is fine. A visual at this point would be a good idea. I believe regulators are side, and power/manual specific, rebuild kits may be also, so be sure you get the right one.

I found a window regulator with motor and the metal plate it all bolts to on a forum for $50 shipped, just look around. Now all I need is time to bolt it up.

Well, as I posted about going to the track, my drivers side window broke on sunday as well. && I had to drive 3 hours with it down. Talk about mad. Yes I was. So, Monday I took it to a local Car Shop to see about getting them fixed because it was supposed to rain Monday Eve as well as Tuesday.. Found out warranty is out. Just my luck. So, we still had them look at it and see whats wrong. Said both regulators are broken, and suggested to replace the motors as they would go out soon as well. && My drivers side switch is broken. So, they were going to fix that as well.. $2,300.

Talked to the guy, and right now we are having him just put up the window, I will be going home next weekend and my cousin is going to get the parts and fix it for me. Bc with deployment coming up sooner than expected Im running around like a chicken with my head cut off. So, hopefully he can get it fixed for much cheaper than $2,300. So, we shall see how it goes.

What site did you post on? I'm in Raleigh, I'd be happy to lend a hand.

My motors in my 1998 are original, I have 271,000 miles of use on the rest of the car. Your 2000 can't be as abused as mine was, so I think your motors are likely just fine. That smells of "Let's rob you blind" by a small shop.

I think even the dealer would be cheaper than that for those repairs! Definitely ripping you off.

I know you are in Jacksonville, but we have a really, really good shop here in Raleigh called Apex Tuning if you ever need major work done. They aren't in the business to screw anyone over and are really great with women owners (I've taken my car there for 3 or 4 years now and they have always been really great with me and my car). Its a VW/Audi shop so they know their stuff. I'd recommend them if you don't mind the drive.

I have manual windows so I'm not sure of the window repair, but the door switch can be a DIY no problem. Its more time consuming, but you can fix it for even just $3! Check out these links about the switches:

Apex Tuning also does a lot of work on DubKorps vehicles... which is apparently some elite VW owners group for active military. So, they'll take good care of a Korps spouse!

Born and raised in MD. Found Catawba through a college fair at my high school. Moved down to Salisbury for undergrad, and now I'm living in Raleigh with my husband going to NCSU for grad school. So I'm a Yankee, but I love the south. Plan on staying in NC for awhile
