Default New Beetle Rear Euro bumper on beetle 2002

Hello,
I am installing a Rear euro bumper(2005) on my 2002 beetle and everything fitted perfectly on both sides but between the trunk and the bumper (from the top of the license plate) it has a 3.5 inches of space. I don't know if there is something that goes there that fills up the space. I gave a lot of thinking but I can't imagine what's wrong.

That's a lot of space

Got a photo

Bumpers can warp if left out in the sun, but not that much. Are you sure it's not from the new shape Bug

The bumper was fitted perfectly, I can see on the alignments on the fenders with the bumper. The bumper was not in the sun. It bumper was kept for six years in my house. I need to talk to the mechanic to send me a picture.

Not if it's 3 or so inches off.

If the rear light sections line up fine, then there must be a problem with the bumper. Either wrong year or mis-shaped. You can bolt up half an inch, but 3 and a half inches

P.S. Doesn't matter if it's a Euro bumper, Japenese, U.S., or Votex. They all fit. If it's pre facelift

Question

Could it possible be an '05 Vert Euro bumper? Verts and sedans DO NOT interchange.
