Default need help removing headlight switch on 2001 newbeetle

let me start off by saying i dont know much about any beetles. im a jeep guy.

i have searched the forum and could not find an answer so i figured i would sign up and ask the folks who know there beetles.

let me cut to the chase. my girlfriend has a 2001 beetle and one of her lo beam bulbs blew so i replaced it. her bulbs flickered for a day or 2 and stoped working completley. i have fiddled with it a few times checking the grounds, fuses and bulbs again. i have read this has happen to a few people and it ends up being the switch.

i need help removing this switch.

i came across this picture, followed the instructions and can only get the switch half way out. i cant find out how to fully remove the switch so i can replace it.

any help would be great and i thank everyone who responds in advance. thanks you.

If you'll do a search "euro" or "euro switch" you should find a DIY with pics and a good "how to" write up, including the ones that don't readily come out as your should have. Many add the rear fog light option and need to change to the "Euro" switch, so this has been well covered. You just didn't know where to look! It does simply "unplug".

Glad you got it out, but I'm not betting that's the problem, the switch is too simple, although you could check it with a multi meter, simply by checking for continuity. They are also easy enough to open. If your not using the rear fog, or don't care if the rear fog indicator light, lights on the switch, when the rear fog is on, you can get a knock-off "OEM", complete with VW/Audi Logo and p/n from China, for a couple bucks, plus shipping, off eBay. That's what I did, had it in abt a week. Total cost, <$15. Even a lot of the online resellers are selling knock-off "OEM"s, but considerably higher, at least one sells both. Some also sell the real deal, but I don't know a way to tell from the site if it is a "real" OEM or a "knock-off" OEM. No matter how you do it, with out going down to the local VW Dealer, your going to have shipping time, or expeditied shipping costs, to get it quick.

dude it could be the wiring harness that goes to the light bulbs themselves i had this problem and i changed the switch then i did the DRL mod (disconnecting the daylight running feature) and then i still had issue and found it to be the wiring harness on the bulbs changed them and no more issues, P.S. ECS has them if needed.
