Default Which Specific Size Oil Filter Adapter for 2012 Turbo ?

Wanting to set up a oil temp gauge I need to know
which size adapter would fit. They list for Jetta
1.8L Turbo (up to 2005) and for GTI 1.8L Turbo (up
to 2006) but nothing specifically for the 2012 Turbo
Beetle. I did see where they listed four measurements
ranging from '18mm - 1.5 thread'....to '20mm - 1.5 thread'
.....to '13/16 - 16 thread'...and '3/4 unf - 16 thread'
but don't know which one is adaptable for the 2012 Turbos ?

With the car just coming out, its going to be hard to find that kind of info, but it might be similar to the 2.0T in the other Mk6 cars. Where are you looking?

Sounds like you need to buy a oil filter to get some concrete answers.

Not like it's a wasted purchase....just keep it for when you do the first oil change down the road.

Was able to find info concerning the oil filter for the
1.8 GTI Turbo and am wondering if the specs for that filter
would be the same as the 2012 2.0 Turbo ?

Where are you looking? There have been other 2.0T engines in VWs since '06 so I'm sure that there is info that could be useful to you. But its also hard to say since the Beetle is so new. I'm assuming its the same as the other 2.0T engines though.

Like Smiley said, this engine has been out a WHILE. It's the exact same setup as the 2.0 GTI. Even the specialized, custom, twin-canister carbon fiber air intakes for the GTI fit perfectly in the 2.0 Beetle.

So I imagine you should be able to find the info on the 2.0 GTI engine and it would tell you

Am going to see if my local dealer has a filter in stock.
Will then let my mechanic try and determine the size of the
connection. The only two VW turbo models listed as being
able to properly connect to the 'sandwich' adapter are
2005 Jetta 1.8L and 2006 GTI 1.8L. No mention of any older
Turbo Beetles at their site. GlowShift Performance Gauges & Pods ? Automotive Boost Gauges, Pyrometer

There are other places to check. 42 draft designs I think has stuff. I know there are plenty of places to get them that a lot of VW people get parts from.

I've seen a blow-up photo of the engine in the 2.0T
and can see the oil filter cover (housing), large O
ring and filter element. Looking closer I seem to see
a screw in base plate for the housing to thread into
and if the filter unit is not a completely closed 'one
piece' filter unit I would have to secure that base plate
to be able to see what thread pattern corresponds to the
sandwich oil temp adapter. Am hoping when I visit VW parts
on Monday that I can just coordinate a complete filter
like the one that is used for the GTI's 2.0T Turbo engine
and not need a complete oil filter housing unit to get
access to a base plate.

VDO is another company to look into for adapters and such. I'm sure someone has something for the 2.0T already since its been out for so long already.

saw a 'universal fit' one on the glowshift ebay site but
I still have to find out some fit info first.

Got VW Parts to order me the correct OEM oil filter for my 2.0 Turbo with
manual trany and it's due in this Wednesday. Just for the record, the part
number is 06J-115-403-J. No housing cannister involved, it is just a basic
one piece unit.

Received an actual filter from VW and the screw on bolt
measures a very large 27mm. Other measurement is 1.5 which
I assume is the thread. In any case, there are no oil
filter 'sandwich' adapters anywhere that can accomodate
a 27mm size but was glad to receive the info that I should
contact 42 Draft Designs - Under their 'CNC Machined
Products' is an alternative to the 'sandwich' for
connecting a 1/8" NPT sensor from the gauge. It is a
1/8" NPT Oil Temp Adaptor which replaces the 'side mounted'
oil drain plug on the Turbo Beetle's engine. It allows for
a simple connection to the sensor. Also, since I'm going to
install a water temp gauge as well, they have a VW Universal
Water Temp Adaptor which is a metal sleeve that connects to
the upper radiator hose and allows a 1/8" NPT sensor to
connect to it. They have some really cool looking stuff
throughout their product range.

Hm... had a thought.

Has anyone thought about the fact that the 2012 Turbo's are DESIGNED to have a gauge pod installed in the dash already.. which means *somewhere*, there is a place to connect an oil pressure adapter and a water sensor already.

Heck, even on the 1.8T there was a spot where you could actually tap into the oil pressure if you knew where to look, but I didn't know where!

And I've seen lots of people with gauges in their 2.0T GTI's, which means.. SOMEWHERE up front, is a place to tap into, or ad a Y-adapter, *instead* of a sandwich adapter. Bet the guys over on VWVortex could tell you in a heartbeat as a bunch of them have been modding GTi's for a few years now

Here's a Vin # 3VWVA7AT3CM604273 for a 2012 Turbo Beetle.
Need to get someone at VW Parts to see if a blow up of
the engine diagram can be coordinated to a specific
area/part that VW has built into the car for the 'originally'
intended Oil Temp Gauge. The other two gauges were supposed
to be for 'Turbo Boost' readings and for a 'stop watch'
clock.
