I have the R32 6spd short shifter in my TS.
I paid $40somthing for it and it was a nice improvement over the stock unit. It reduces the throw by 20% to 25%.

he used the tt part .I have to replace the part in the console . the part you put your hand on when you shift so that I can fix the bushing. the tt short throw will make it shift better then it was but I need that bushing fixed so what i am asking is has anybody used one of the shifters that cost about $40 that looks like the b&m shifter. the one that mounts inside the car .not to the transmission. there are a bunch on ebay and amazon

Most short shifters entail some sort of linkage replacement or modification. It seems your problem is with the actual shifter inside the car. If you want to replace the shifter inside the car with one other than OEM then the only one I know of would be the B&M shifter. I heard they are a bit difficult to install since you have to drop the exhaust system to get to it from the bottom. If it is just a bushing you need I would think it would be replaceable rather than replacing the entire shifter.
when I installed mine I didnt have to drop anything. I installed it while sitting in my drivers seat.

What are we talking about here? You installed an aftermarket short shifter while sitting in your drivers seat? Not possible but do tell

I stand corrected. I see you have a 1999 New Beetle. On the 1998-1999 New Beetle's the shifter mechanism is different from the 2000+ New Beetle's and you are right. In the 1998 and 1999's you don't need to remove anything from the bottom. Lucky you. Any 2000 and beyond does need to take off the exhaust to get to the linkage on the bottom end.

Good thing for me is I built a 2 1/2 turbo back exhaust system with a flowmaster for are last car that blew up. My wife wants that in her new car so I can fix the shifter at the same time. I would really like to replace the bushing and do the tt short shift but I can't et the bushing. On eBay , type new beetle shifter and a Bunch show up .they look like there the same ones to me but you can see the bushing I need to replace in the pic. Has anybody used one if these?

I looked at some of those shifters on E-Bay. They look interesting enough but I don't know about the quality plus they don't come with any instructions. I guess you can go by the instructions on the B&M site since it will probably be about the same set up. I wish you could find a bushing that fits. I still don't know which bushing you need or I would help find you one. I can't believe the dealer can't help you. That just $ucks.
I may try a cheap shifter just to see what it is like. I still have a very expensive billit shift knob from my TT and I can't use it with the current Beetle shifter. It seems all the aftermarket shifters come with a screw on type set up. Not sure if the threads will fit my TT shifter though.
Perhaps just get a TT shift rod.
Good luck with your search for the bushing.
