Default WIDE adapter question...

What's the widest adapters you have seen SAFELY run on anyones car? Reason I ask is I need to order a set of 60mm adapters for my Galaxie in order to run the wheels I want. They don't make these particular wheels in the offset/backspace I need. The company I'm looking at getting my adapters from custom make them all the way up to 100mm so I'm assuming it's pretty safe.

Seems pretty thick to me (almost 4 inches) but what style are they? It's not like we're talking about spacers with 6" lug bolts.

I run 15mm spacers which are right on the bleeding edge of being dangerous so I'm definitely not lecturing. I definitely think your car would become very, very hard on wheel bearings because of the torque the wheel would be exerting on the hub.

Think of it like:

Stock: Trying to turn a socket by hand.
30mm: Trying to turn a socket with a ratchet.
60mm: Trying to turn a socket with a breaker bar.

The more leverage the wheel has on the wheel bearing the faster they will wear out but you don't hear much about wheel spacers / adapters wearing out wheel bearings but cars that are running these setups are usually garage queens and don't rack up much mileage.

They will be hub and wheel centric, 5x114.3 car and 5x112 wheel if that's what you mean by "what style are they?"

Well 60mm would be about 2.5". There are alot of wheels for muscle cars with up to a -44 ET which is about where I will be. I'm ok with changing my axle bearings a little more often than normal in order to run these wheels. (which I wouldn't suspect I would have to change more than once every 50k @ worst)
I am more concerned with the safety aspect. I will not ever track this car or race it in any way, it's more of a cruiser. I wrote the manufacturer at motorsport-tech.com and he assured me that the axle would break way before an adapter did, just wanted to get "a second opinion" maybe from anyone who has run thicker than normal spacers/adapters. The front wheels will only need about 19-20mm adapters and I've run sizes comparable to those.
BTW this will NOT be a garage queen, I built this thing to drive, and drive alot! (except for rain and snow) But I live in the desert so there isn't much of that!

I was going to mention motorsport-tech. Lenny is very knowledgeable. There's nothing sketchy about an overly thick adapter at all. The thicker the better IMO. It's thin ones like I run that you have to worry about.

it comes out to 2.36 inches i would not think that is safe at all. from what i have learned on my way to being an engineer it would put a lot of extra torque on the hub. You could be better off to reset the hubs to the right place. It will cost more but it will be safer and will handle better and wont wear out parts nearly at fast.

Yes, Lenny is who I spoke with. Very knowledgeable and he quoted me a way cheaper price than what the site told me when I typed in my specs. I'll post up some pics once I get them installed and let you guys know how they are in case anyone ever has the same question.

So I was able to put the centers from the front wheels in the rear wheels and vice versa. With the front centers in the rear wheels, it gave me an almost negative offset. So I was able to go with a much thinner adapter. I ended up ordering a 35mm for the rear and a 28 for the fronts. If anyone ever wants custom adapters, Lenny at motorsport-tech.com is more than helpful.

I have ran 25mm hub centric on my NB for years without any problems. I could stand 35s on the back. My spacers bolt to the hub. My wheels bolt to the spacers, so ten lugs per wheel.

Yes, mine are also wheel and hub centric. My worry in the beginning was when I was looking at running 60mm adapters. I'm all good with 35mm's.
