Question 99 VW Beetle

Well let me start off with saying hello to all who read! I am a brand new owner of a 99 VW Beetle and absolutely love it! Bought the car last Friday for only $2300 and it needed a few things. The check engine light has come on and the codes prompted us to change the catalytic converter. That was done today. The new code we have is P0411 which is for the secondary air injection pump. Well tinkering with the bug tonight we found where the hose coming from the pump to the air box was messed up. We think we have fixed the problem but we cannot figure out how to clear the code or get the check engine light to go off. Is there a way to clear the check engine light from the car so we can drive it and see if it comes back on before we replace the secondary air injection pump and go that route. We have already tried disconnecting the battery but that did not clear the light so that leads me to believe the bugs are wired with "hard codes". Any help is greatly welcome.

Also what would be the best route in fixing certain things on the doors that are wrong. For example the driver door will not lock. The locking motor works it continuously tried to lock every time you drop under 15 miles per hour and go back over it but it will not lock. The bezels for both driver and passenger window controllers are broken and we need the cup holder that goes for the back seats.

Once again I am a newbie to the Beetle or even VW world but I love my car and I am just trying to get it right!

I am glad you found this New Beetle, as you seem to be one it needed. If he/she could talk, I am sure he'she would say "THANK YOU"

I'm no mechanic, but we are here to help you. Good luck!

I have a Scangauge II. It is a Multigauge that comes in very handy. Besides showing about 40 different readings/gauges (4 at the time) and being a valuable trip computer. It also reads codes and clears them.

That said go and take it to any Advance Auto or Auto Zone and they can hook an OBDII scanner to the car and clear the codes.

Those secondary airpumps do go out and their is a way to fix them. The airhose being messed up usually doesn't throw a code. I have mine connected to an aftermarket filter and it has popped off a few times but I never did get a code from just the hose. But your case may be different.

If it is the secondary airpump do a search here and I believe there is a thread on how to fix the pump at least temporarily.

Off topic but - does the Scangauge do boost/vacuum? I'll probably end up with a regular boost gauge, but I am curious about it and how responsive it is if it does read it.

You might look into the app torque for your smart phone ipad of i phone it is 5 bucks it will do everything you need and then some. you will have to get a bluetooth adapter off of ebay but it is a great app if you have any questions pm me. This app also reads out a lot of gauges almost as many you want. and boost is one of the options among a huge choice of live read gauges.
