New Beetle-Moab - YouTube

I've been thinking about doing this to my 2000 New Beetle for a while now. I also have a 1971 Beetle, which was always known for being great on rough roads & snow, but the New Beetles sit a lot lower than the old ones and I'm tired of getting swamped in snow banks or eating catalytic converters because I ran over a downed tree branch or crunching my running boards in deep potholes.

This is also SERIOUSLY freaking hot.

Can anyone point me in the direction of a website that sells kits to do this? I'm going to keep my stock rims, but I'm due for tires so I may see if I can get something a little fatter put on. I'm also getting a wheel bounce in the rear passenger side suspension, so I figured the best time to convert is now that I already need suspension work & tires.

You can use this 2" spacer kit from Metal Nerd Custom Accessories - Lift Kit for VW Beetles, Golf, Jetta, Passat - VW Engine Tools from Metalnerd
Along with VR6 front springs and Jetta Wagon rear springs for an additional ~2"

Your wheel bounce issue is either a worn out shock, worn upper mount, or out of balance tire.

Not sure. I just have a bunch of pics of lifted NBs saved that I found on the internet. You're right though, that thing is sexy. I would relocate that intercooler before I took it offroad though.

I was just thinking that myself about the intercooler, it's hanging out because they removed the bottom part of the front bumper.

I liked the red and green bugs that were lifted, cause they put on bigger tires. I think the yellow bug being lifted but not installing a larger wheel looks a little off.

Also, what roads are you driving on that kills your car like that? Where do you live, Africa?!?

Lol not quite. But there are a few dirt cross roads around here that are more like trails than roads. Especially this time of year. I'm not the kind of guy that wants to drive an extra 6 or 8 miles when I can just zip down a dirt road to get where I'm going quicker.

LOL! I live on a dirt road and mu daily is lowered on coils and my fun car is on air suspension. I'll never understand why some people can't drive NB's at stock height.

I can drive it just fine at stock height, I just don't care for having to slow down to a near stop at every stick, rock, dip, or washout in the road. Plus oil pans are expensive and it's kind of a messy pain in the ass job to replace one when you puncture it. Now, I've never put a hole in my oil pan, but have replaced pans for other people on a vr6 jetta, two 2.0 jettas, and a 1.8 golf. Those were all damaged, not even from driving on a dirt road, but from hitting ice chunks on the main roads.

My parents live on a gravel road and have a lot of gravel and dirt roads around. I never drove my car any slower than I did any other vehicle I drove down them. Now, people do go 40+ on those roads, but its not safe at all. Never had any issue on those roads in my NB, even with large pieces of gravel. Only time I had a problem in my NB was when I hit a flipped up pipe cover in the road. That busted my oil pan. No issues otherwise though.

My GTI has the same ground clearance too. You have to be conscious of it, but no need to creep along at every slight dip or rock.

I guess they have different levels of dirt roads where you are. Here the only place I'd find a road like that was if I were to go north into the forest or drive through a farmer's field.

Speaking of crap on the road, the only time I've ever had anything scary hit the underside of my car was on a two lane divided highway. It was morning and I was driving east into the sun so I couldn't distinguish objects that well. I didn't see that the chuck of cement on the road was a chunk of cement until it was hitting the underside of my car. It thankfully only dented the plastic protector under the car.

I'm thinking about trying this on my '02 TDI.
Has anyone here tried this kit? It looks affordable.
