I need to get rid of my restrictive stock exhaust and I'm looking at going with either APR, Techtonics Tuning, or GHL. Not sure what everybody around here is running, but I have heard great reviews about each of these exhausts. I plan on running a 3" dp with highflow cat and then 2.5" back from there. Also is there a muffler preference... any dyno results showing a superior one? I'm just finishing prepping the car for APR's 4 program software before I put it in storage and leave for school at the Air Force Academy. Any help is appreciated.

I have a Techtonics Tuning 2.5" cat-back mated to a no-name 2.5" downpipe and it's great. Noticed an increase in power at all RPM's and the sound is great. Growls when you're putting around and WAILS when you get on it.

If you get a TT exhaust, get it from Pete @ thescirocco.com. The BEST prices on TT parts. I got my cat-back and tip of my choice shipped to me for $575.

http://thescirocco.com/tt.html

There is a sound clip of the TT exhaust at the bottom of that page.

I have a friend with the TT exhaust and a 3" downpipe and it isn't louder than my full 2.5" system, but it does have more of a growl when you let off the throttle. Really cool, if you ask me.

GHL exhausts are on the loud side of the spectrum, but they are great exhausts. Their 2.5 is louder than the TT exhaust.

APR has a nice tone to it, a little richer in sound than the TT, but about the same volume-wise. APR exhausts are mady by Billy Boat (B&B), so you may be able to find a better price if you look for their exhaust.

I seriously doubt that you'll be able to beat the scirocco.com's TT prices, unless you go used.

Thanks for the information. I was also wondering whether or not to go stainless. Obviosly an aluminum exhaust will corrode over time, but I can't really justify spending an extra $200 for shiny tubing no one will ever see! The car is stored in the winter and rarely sees rain, only if unexpected, so is aluminum my best bet? Also has anyone seen a difference in the borla muffler v. the flowmaster when utilized with the TT setup? Also, www.gprparts.com has great prices on the 2.5" TT exhaust!

I have a 2.5" TT cat back with an APR 2.5" DP. THe sound is perfect. some think it is loud but I love it! I too ordered it form Peter at the scirocco.com. The guy was super cool and answered all of my questions. I went alluminised. Yeah it rains alot in Oregon but the guys at TT said that since it doesn't snow much and there is not much rock salt on the roads that most others in my area run alluminised without problems. For me that was nice to hear since it saved me $200. Borla muffler is the way to go. I got hooked when I heard the sound clip on Pertes website.

I have a Eurosport DP and an Autotech Cat Back... it is not very loud at all and has a nice deep rumble.... I am very fond of the tone.

Thanks everyone for all the help it looks like I'll probably go aluminum TT 2.5" w/ borla muffler and APR 3" dp, but keep the info coming... I don't plan on buying until May and I'd love to consider any and all options!

Go stainless. You won't regret it.

If you're on a major budget, then look for the Megan Racing 2.5" SS cat-back that is sold on Ebay. They're actually pretty good from what I've heard. Nice sound also.

Or, if you're the industrious type, get just the SS pipes from www.kteller.com and while you're there, grab a Magnaflow muffler.

And I STILL love my TT exhaust. All my friends love the way my car sounds, and that's over the supposed "end-all be-all" GHL 3" turbo-back.

Default Hope, I'm not highjacking the thread

I'm in the same boat, looking for pics and sound clips.

I'm looking for something stealthy. Cruising sound is very important to me (no reverb inside)

I love the sound of the stock R32 and 350Z. Is it possible to get a sound like this out of a 1.8t or do I need 2 more cylinders to make this happen?

Brian

With a 4 cylinder you will never be able to sound exactly the same as a 6 cylinder no matter what you do. If you keep the stock exhaust but chop off the stock muffler and replace it with a straight through one like a magnaflow or borla you will have a deep tone down low that doesn't drone and sounds good without being loud and you will even gain a few ponies. Most mufler shops will provide and install the muffler for about $100 installed.

I have not swapped out my the exhaust on my Turbo just yet, but I was very happy with the 2.5" TT exhaust I placed on my Corrado G60. Since you live in Wisconsin, I would highly recommend going with the stainless setup given the winters you endure up there. I live in Oregon, where Techtonics Tuning is based, and I went aluminized based on their recommendation.

Anyway, the performance gains and throaty sound were better than expected. I had the exhaust paired with a K&N intake and Autotech performance chip. It wasn't until the exhaust was added that the others were really able to show their stuff. My setup used the Magnaflow muffler, not the Borla.

I just painted the car and added new rims and tires, so when the reserve funds pick up again, I'll be giving Techtonics another call.

btw its aluminized which means it is steel with a thin coating of aluminium sprayed on top... it will rust out in two years if it ever sees even the littlest salt spray.

i cut off my muffler and welded in straight pipe, sounds great, not loud at all, and a noticable increase in ponies.

Hey Billsbug - I will post some pics in a day or 2. 93oct is available at very few stataions now, 91 is more plentiful and not as painful on the pocketbook. I will give you a shout once the pics are posted.
