Default Adding the Turbos S Turn Signals to a Non-S Car

THIS THREAD IS NOW INVALID! COULD A MOD PLEASE LOCK THIS?
I've decided I hate my daytime running lights. They just look plain dumb. I want to have lights on during the day, but not something so obnoxious! The Cadillac CTS has two amber lights mounted right above the ground that it uses instead of DRLs, and I'd like to do something similar with my bug.

I first thought I could do some creative wiring and make the fron markers come on instead of the DRLs, but they aren't bright enough. Rather than mounting a pair of lights inside the lower grill, I'd like to add the Turbo S city lights (the smaller lights just to the left of the main headlamps) to my car. I have a 2000 2.0, so I'd need to get a body shop to drill holes in the bumper, and cut the insides to fit the light housing. I'm sure I could get all the parts for both lights througha dealer, or off a wrecked Turbo S. After looking through this:
http://forums.newbeetle.org/showthre...rbo+s+blinkers
it seems fairly easy to do.

Is this even possible? I assume the process would go like this:

1. Aquire Parts
2. Drill holes
3. Wire in the light fixtures
4. Mount the light housing
5. Insret Lenses
6. Figure out how to make them come on as DRLs

What do you all think? This doesn't seem all that hard, and the most expensive part of this mod would be getting a bodyhop to cut holes in my bumper.

FWIW, those are not the city lights, those are the turn signals. I don't know if 1.8turboS ever finished the mod of not.

The city lights are small bulbs inside the headlight housing used as parking lights. See pic.

I can't say if it would be hard or not to install these on a Non-S bumper, as I am not a body shop guy.

Good luck!

Gotcha, I guess I would just have to wire them to stay on all the time. What are city lights even for?
Also, edited the title.

After some digging on the old forums I have found a complete part list for a Turbo S front clip swap. I've got the info for all the parts I'd need!

PARTS LIST:
Right Turn Signal - 1C0-953-155-J
Left Turn Signal - 1C0-953-156-J
(2) Bulb Sockets - 1H0-953-123-F (For blinkers)
(2) Bulb Sockets - 1C0-943-167 (For side markers)
Yellow wire - (4x) 000-979-133 (will be cut in 1/2 to make 8)
Grommets - (8x) 357-972-741-B

End connectors:
Front turn signals (round)- 1H0-953-123-F
Side markers - 1J0-971-921-K

Front Clips for Blinkers:
(1) 1C0-943-809-A
(1) 1C0-943-809-B
(1) 1C0-943-810-A
(1) 1C0-943-810-B

I cut out everything that did not relate to the turn signals(body panels, headlights etc.) Now I need to eliminate the parts needed for the Turbo S side markers, and I'll be set!
Can anyone help?

Concept of what my car would look like with these lights!

From what I can remember after living in Germany twice... City lights are used when parking on narrow, poorly lit streets so on-coming cars can see your car better... The parking lights don't normally light up with them on like ours and it's very common to leave them on over night... Most euro-spec cars will have one in the rear (part of the brake light) as well...
