Thumbs up Sleeper Airbox Mod

With all of the posts lately about snowbox removal and CAI's and open filters and which one is best for whatever reasons ect. ect. I caught the mod bug and I was bored and did some tinkering this morning. I used to just run an open filter for that pssshhhhtttt!!!! sound and good throttle response. The car did tend to heat bog off the line when it's hot and muggy out which is ALWAYS here in Florida. I switched back and forth between a stock airbox w/ K&N and no snowbox to the open air filter trying to make up my mind which one I prefer for year round conditions. The stock box cured the heatsoak but suffered in throttle response. I did a lot of knuckle busting to get out the stupid tube leading to the airbox and basically cut a big hole in the opening in the airbox where this tube used to lead to. I wanted to give it the unrestricted airflow like a open filter while still providing good heat shield protection. . I was amazed at how restrictve this bent up and flatened tube looked when I finally got it out. Well..... after a good bit of driving I am very happy with my days work. The throttle response in on par with the open filter and it still sucks cold air from under the headlight while being completed shielded from the heat of the engine bay. The tone is a bit louder than the stock setup with a subtle pppssshhhtt sound heard between shifts. The other good thing is that it looks completely stock so if you bring your car into the dealer they should be none the wiser unless they really do a lot of close looking around. Enjoy the pics. If anybody local is interested in my open filter setup I'll let it go for $20.

a good amount of people wll cut the bottoms out of their OEM box or swiss cheese it (bunch of holes)

im a firm believer in the OEM paper filter and box. with that said, heres my post over on the vortex.

just finished a new mod to the OEM airbox. i picked up a CAI from TMTuning and just didnt like it. i had purchased some 3" neoprene aircraft tubing for it but since i wasnt going to use it I opted to do an easy mod.

since our airboxes are actually good and rated real high in HP i ran this from the front grill up.

all pics are on my flickr set.
